They need to be tighter. The standard straps must be quite tight to hold the shank in position, almost uncomfortably tight I would say. Changing the straps may help, although I still use the standard straps with no major problems.
  3. You are missing the point. All equipment is supplied by someone, therefore if its PPE it must have a CE mark.
  4. Not yet, but I have used the lowering device and I can see how it would work really well. You could use a swing cheek pulley, but the spare cheek would flop around and get in the way. £55 for a specially designed piece of kit isnt too much to ask imo.
  5. Its a bargain mate, buy the proper tool for the job rather than bodging, you wont regret it.
  6. Haha, my thoughts exactly. Perhaps he should have a word with his Loler inspector?
  7. Interesting. Yes I do want some, and I would like to know who supplies it. On a completely unrelated note, yes, I believe there are issues with supplying gear without CE marks, even if you sell it as "accessory cord", since everyone knows what its really for anyway. If someone did come a cropper using it then the supplier could well be held liable. FWIW, there are good reasons why armor prus does not have a CE mark, although they wouldnt stop me using it as a hitch cord.
  8. Whats that got to do with lowering ropes?
  9. If only. For an educated arborist you seem remarkably ill-informed.
  10. And how would you obtain said armor prus to use as friction cord? Seeing as its not available in the UK, i presume you would be importing it yourself?

  12. You dont need CE for rigging kit. Refer to manufactorer for MBS, minimum breaking strain, and then work back from there, once you have a SWL safe working load mark it up as appropriate.
  13. The portland seems ok, not as stiff as esterlon I would say, although it does flatten a lot running over the drum.
  14. Yup. 6 foot of beech at 48" diameter works out at about 2400kg, which is about the limit for my crane. I can reach out to about 6 metres, which would get most of it I reckon, and I could certainly drag it in to the truck, and cut liftable sections once it was close enough.
  15. Bet mine would get in there.
  16. You dont need a special rope, just better groundies!
  17. Used one for the last 2 days, very pleased with it. 14 and 16mm both work fine, it is rated for up to 19mm, which I have no doubt it would handle just fine.
  18. Ooh, sounds kinky!
  19. Why didnt you fell it with the knuckle on and ring it up on the ground?
  20. I think you should read Matty's thread about what he did with just such a beech, then you would have the answer to that question.
  21. For getting rid of green waste pm renewablejohn on this forum.
  22. Just the ticket mate, quite similar to mine. Have you taken the fleecy lining out?
  23. I have mine cut once every 2 years, whether it needs it or not.
  24. Is that so the hair clippings dont get into the bodywork?
