  1. That looks pretty smart, how do you go on chipping with it on the trailer, with the extra height? Looks like its going to fire the chip right over the truck?
  2. Nah, I have staff for the boring jobs!
  3. Looks good. What size digger is that?
  4. Yes it is a pain although its easier with two men. A Hobbs would be my first choice for rigging lots of big lumps of timber. I have used hobbs, grcs, portys and the stein single bollard btw.
  5. Looks like one of Jerry Baraneks to me. Fundamentals of General Tree Work?
  6. Garmin nuvi 250 widescreen. Does the job, but the TMC is rubbish. The TMC on my Nissan Navteq system is excellent, but it doesnt use postcodes. I have used a tom tom, i find the route guidance clearer on the garmin, other than that they are about the same. They both tend to favour bigger roads, which can be annoying, but if you set them to shortest route then it gets really silly taking you down tiny roads.
  7. Eh? A splice cost £20, how is that expensive? You'll get back £20 in time not spent tying and untying knots, plus the satisfaction of having the right tool for the job.
  8. So you are claiming to be the Lewis Hamilton of the arb world then? Are there any regs covering such practises in Sweden?
  9. Sure did! He moved the car first, still quite an awkward fell, heavy side weighting and a back lean. The old tapered hinge came out, dropped just right but it pulled some really long fibres on the tension side.
  10. Little stunt fell from today, the owner of the car was watching out of the window, he offered to move it just as I was hammering the wedges in......
  11. I hope he gets prosecuted. There is no excuse for employing someone with no training and no experience to do a hazardous job.
  12. Sounds nasty. Was it someone being paid to do the work or a diyer out of their depth?
  13. Luvverly job.
  14. Have you not seen Reg's video of him lifting a tracked chipper over a wall with his Hobbs then?
  15. Looks like the lid off a rhubarb forcer to me!
  16. Ring Bateson, tell them exactly what you want and they will build it for you, simples.
  17. GT25 - Our smallest auto tilt low load trailer - Hydraulic Tilt Trailers
  18. Tiltbed for a dedicated chipper trailer every time.
  19. Isuzu Trooper. Proper 4x4, tows 3.5 tonnes, seats 7, 30mpgs if you're careful.
  20. You could always check out who you are posting about before you try for condescending post of the year award.
  21. ISA TCC Rules 2010 Let me know if you find the bit about using two ropes.
  22. Say what? Ever been to a comp? Has your instructor ever been to a comp?
  23. The point I am making is that you dont have to be a top notch climber to get on in the arb industry, or to run your own business. In fact, if a few less firms were run by climbers then the whole industry would be a lot more professional. The point of the thread though is about climbing ability, and as with any skill the younger you start the more you will achieve.
  24. Interesting. I have some observations from some time in the industry spent with different firms. There are plenty of good businessmen running successful arb firms who are mediocre climbers. There are plenty of good climbers running firms who are out of their depth business wise. There are a few people out there with their own firms who quite frankly are rubbish climbers and suck at running a business. The best climbers I have worked with have started young.
  25. Yes, and the second part of the question is; If you had started at the age of 20, do you think you would have been a better all round climber?
