  1. Thanks for sharing that WW, ill mention it to some of my family who are on septic tanks
  2. Yes, agree with the others, Clarks sappies all the way, I had two, lent one out and it came back in 2 pieces. The lendee replaced the broken one with an Oregon one, just not the same, too light, doesn't stick the log so well, tbh I don't like it.
  3. There is a knack for tirfor winching stumps out. 1) get the biggest tirfor you can afford 2) pay the biggest most muscle bound man-mountain meat head you can find to do it 3) get a deck chair and some tinnies lined up, sit back and watch, maybe even give some tips on correct posture 4) collect £££s and go home Easy.
  4. Way way back in time, way before the conception of this forum, I recall a forum where any videos showing anything other than textbook work would be removed. What's great about this forum is the freedom to show Treework in the real world, done by real people. What we must all remember is that there are correct safe techniques that are taught and should be used where applicable, and just because you see a video on a forum that doesn't automatically make it the newer safer technique. Nor does it make it wrong. I think it would be a very tedious boring forum if people only showed and discussed the correct techniques. I've done some dangerous trees in my time, but I've also left some until bigger better equipment can be brought in to make them as safe as possible, and this is the key IMO, knowing the limitations of your skills, and the equipment available to you and working within those parameters.
  5. I really hate to say this.... But you're right Steve again
  6. What poise, what balance, why a stunt!!
  7. Never be put off by the armchair critics, it's the quality of photos that help make this forum. I think the standard of some of the work people post on here is amazing. Sometimes the criticism is constructive, just look at the take down of the Redwood by James Hoddy. He has learned from pointers received here, as well as the guidance from Reg Coates. Nice how you built the wall with a gate around that fallen tree by the way good work.
  8. Well bah humbug, what a couple of seasonal miseries you are.
  9. Cracking job Mr Hoddy 22... Old?
  10. ditto what Eggs has said, all the very best to you for Xmas, and a successful 2013
  11. My honest thoughts on Aspen. Hmmm. Price is an issue, sorry, I can't see beyond that, £17 for 5litres!!!!! The plus side now is I don't grumble about filling the cans at the filling stations any more. It seems cheap now. Mixing fuel has never been an issue, so I don't buy into that argument. Fumes? It's only on one or two occasions that I can honestly say fumes have been an issue for me, not enough to spend the extra. Disposal of cans? I did as suggested and removed labels and lid, flushed it out and put it in recycle bin, it was removed and I got a label on correct recycling. Burning, hardly environmentlly correct, seeing as its supposed to be the green alternative. Beautiful smelling aroma? Maybe it's only plus. Hardly worth buying cos it "smells nice". Did I mention it's £17 for 5litres? Tools ran fine on it, no issues there, but they also ran fine on far cheaper fuels, so hardly worth spending twice as much for the same effect. Will I buy it again? Actually, having said what I've said above, I will buy some more. It will be for the little used equipment, that needs fuel to be left for long periods, such as 2 stroke genny, big big saws that aren't out every single day, and maybe my "best" hedgetrimmer for dense hedging. So yes, you could say I am sort of converted to it. Sort the pricing, sort the dealerships so it's more accessible, surely the higher volumes sold, then the price should fall?
  12. All 21 stone of her
  13. Hmmm just. Few more hours.....just in case
  14. Welcome hedgesparrow. What a brilliant tribute to your dad, I like it. Likewise, I'd never heard of the parish length either, interesting.
  15. Now, I seem to recall a little wager in aid of the Children's Trust, Mr Aspen. I must admit I have been tempted to influence the outcome of this by creating a demand at the outlets I put forward earlier in the thread, but I didn't. But today is the last day before most of the outlets are closed for Xmas and the end date was close of play of the 24th. Today I rang each outlet and asked if they stocked the fuel, as I was on a Job and running short. The answers were 3 very clear nos. I think in this case, the only winners are the Children's Trust, to the tune of £20, I lose out because I still can't source the product locally enough to be anywhere near viable, you lose out on potential customers, in a new area, oh and £20. Merry Christmas to you all at Aspen fuels. losers
  16. Oh thanks, that's just reminded me of something I must do.
  17. Well, as far as anti-climaxes go, that was about as big as they get. Good job I carried on as normal.
  18. Oh you went to heaven then
  19. Still here this end of the world stuff is getting little tiresome, can't they ever get it right
  20. Like that
  21. I can understand it to a point, if you need to cover call outs and stuff, but there isn't really much that won't wait another day. But some just have to keep pushing. Anyway, I'm working tomorrow, maybe Xmas Eve, off for a couple of days, do a couple more if I can bribe/blackmail/beat someone into assisting me, then long weekend through til New Year. I like to break it up a bit, it's good to have a bit of time off, but it's also the most stressful time for families as we're not used to being all cooped up together for such long periods. Of course this is now totally hypothetical as we're all doomed anyway
  22. Best I heard was yesterday. This chap was told he has Xmas day off, and better be back in his van first thing Boxing Day working, unless he's dead, or they could all find another job. I think my answer may have gone along the lines of "goodbye"
  23. See you all in Hell
  24. I'm just hanging back to make sure the World doesn't end tomorrow, of course it's just another myth but you can't be too careful you know
  25. So you do work now and again then Steve, thought you'd retired. nice job
