  1. Gotcha
  2. Still sucks monkey nuts though doesn't it. I suppose you'd have a case for a back claim though, you can if it's an illness, and if you're suffering any form of disability or motor injuries that are ongoing. Probably worth going to CAB and asking anyway.
  3. We got a yellow Snow Warning here, ill be ok, never eat it anyway!
  4. I stand corrected, I've just found an example of a case very similar, the companies EL should possibly have paid out in your mates case Ed "A self-employed contractor was working exclusively for the insured business. While at work he jammed his hand in between a lintel and a metal bar, causing a serious laceration. What did the insurer cover? The insurer paid out damages to the contractor under the employers' liability cover at a cost of £49,990." another example is that of illnesses picked up contracted through working for a company, ie asbestosis, or I suppose even Weils disease or Limes disease.
  5. If the "crushed hand" thenresulted in amputation due to the severity of the injury, then I would expect a claim against EL ins. If the "crushed hand" was a result of a bit of a nasty nip and a blood blister and a broken finger nail, then claim on your own personal accident insurance. I've just been talking to some electrical engineers, they refuse to do anything now that "may" infringe on their personal safety at work, anything includes walking in wintry conditions, working in a cold environment, carrying out any duty they are not trained for, even if they have been trained in the past but it has expired and the company hasn't refreshed them. They tactically try to spend as much time as possible on refresher training to avoid working. And the company has to bow to their needs, for fear of getting sued. This state of affairs is ridiculous, no wonder the country is on it's knees.
  6. Which Suffolk are you in? I've had 4inches on the ground for 3 days here!! , complete whiteout on Tuesday, couldn't see the dog on the end of his lead!!
  7. why did he not have his own personal accident insurance, to cover his own accidents? How is it always someone else's responsibilty to pay?
  8. A mate of mine subs to three different companies, and all three have been hit this week alone!!! This kind of targetting is getting all too rife, and there is no protection against it in law. In one case they had torched around the reinforced locks until the doors opened.
  9. I did definitely coming tomorrow, you'll see, wish it would clear off now anyway.
  10. Only -11C here last night, so not so bad, constant -3 now, brrrrr. Freezing fog came down for most of the morning, horrible stuff, hate it. More snow coming over night and tomorrow.
  11. Well, I'm not a climber, I'm only "NPTC certified", I have no formal qualifications in Arboriculture, forestry or woodland management. I guess that means I won't have to worry abut taking on any "qualified" freelancers who are far too good for my work? But I do pay at the end of the job, or the end of the working week, for my sins. I have worked for AAAC companies where the boss had even less NPTC certs than me, yet he had one of the best regional companies in the area, with high standards and expectations. At the time I don't think one worker had any formal qualifications, so I wouldn't get too hung up on their importance, it's tree cutting not nuclear physics.
  12. If its encroaching on the highway, reducing the visibility from a legitimate driveway or road junction, they are quite within their rights to ask for your cooperation. I do not understand why a uniformed officer was asked to pass on the message. A notice from the parish council is all that's required. If it is passed on to the council highways department, they can carry out the work and charge you for it, if you refuse, so it's cheaper for you just to get it done?
  13. I'd be quite impressed if some freelancers could provide a proper invoice I've seen everything from a notebook page torn out to a scribble on an old envelope IIRC I've probably only had one person ever give me a "correctly" written invoice, with every detail as it should be, ie UTR ref name, address and details on it. I'm guessing if I asked some of these questions of a contractor in the past I would have been lucky to work for them ever again, let alone get away without a thick ear mind you, no one ever couldn't pay, or tried to refuse to pay me, so I guess luck came into it as well.
  14. I had shingles about 7 years ago, and like many others I didn't know what it was until it had gone, just thought it was flu or something.
  15. I wonder what people would find to talk about on one of these tree forums? Baffles me
  16. Did it ever catch on then? I mean, a site to talk about saws and trees, who on earth would be interested in that?
  17. Army air Corps base up the road, they have get the forecast right, Apache base and all that.
  18. No chance!! I'm not planning to leave this house for the foreseeable future, colder forecast tonight, more heavy snow on way.
  19. Seems a lifetime ago now
  20. -13C here last night Bbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrr! Looks chilly now, pretty but chilly.
  21. Yes these hoodies look good out and about, almost too nice to wear for work
  22. Dry, cold and frosty, no snow here as yet.
  23. Tom, no one has bullied you, or flamed you. They have pointed out that the standard of work is below par. I'm sure generally you would agree with them on this. To kick off angrily says to me that you know deep down that they are all right, but you have to defend yourself, and the Verminator. Finally, it is not Arbtalks fault that the tree looked bad, nor that you posted it, but of course it's easier to look to blame the whole world rather than yourself. Sleep on it and move on. Tomorrows another day,
  24. You've bloody inspired me Stevie I actually had a lump in my throat and a tear in the corner of my eye reading that. I think many of us have been in a similar boat, up the creek and had to make our own paddle cos the other one floated away. Life is not easy, life is a set of challenges that we need to rise up and deal with head on. Luck and pity do not come into it...ever. Many have tried to inspire you Chipper080, but you just keep on blaming everyone else for your problems. You have to help yourself, we can't do it for you. We can give you ideas, and tips, but you need to pedal your bike to get your job.
  25. I wonder why he wants no more to do with us. Strange.
