  1. If there are definitely no marks I think you can only do it with a timing disc, you may be able to download one and make it? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=making+a+timing+disc&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=6iHrUMufAofC0QXMtYC4Ag&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=672 I've done this in the past good luck
  2. gross is before tax, Nett is after deductions.
  3. If you're self employed you charge what you want. It's up to the person who hires you whether he wishes to hire your services and equipment at that rate.
  4. The v on the camgear goes to the dot on the crankshaft gear.
  5. Nice one Mike now isn't this better than reading Mr Negative at the beginning? It's like a new member has joined and taken over from chipper088. Keep this up, keep on posting pictures of your work and update us with your progress. This is your thread, use it to promote yourself
  6. gross, still leaves him above min wage
  7. I'd guess at around £65 per day £325 a week, based on 40hrs and all the perks of employment.
  8. I agree with Steve actually, though there are now far more forestry/woodland types on here now than a couple of years ago. And anyone stacking timber anywhere should be signing it as a hazard, be it in a yard or roadside. I think it's still worth Justin looking into it tbh.
  9. I bought a couple of each, 9 and 29, as I have some woodland footpaths to sign up, I already have quite a few so I didn't need many more.
  10. Jeez Justin, I just ordered some this bloomin morning I don't believe it!!! at least I got them from another sponsor so I don't feel too bad FYI I ordered sign 9 and sign 29 styles.
  11. Oh the irony many thanks Arb Aid and Steve. One prize I hope never comes in handy
  12. Mines about a litre and a half, always go bigger than you think you need, everyone wants a brew when you're making. Plus if you're only making for yourself, you have plenty for brews later in the day.
  13. I think it's amazing, given the number of participants of this years draw. £7000 worth of tickets, and all we had was a wee glitch. Think back to how it was when we started out, this forum has developed way beyond all expectations and predictions of growth. I can only applaud Steve and his tech team for the efforts made to hold this annual event, and of course everyone who contributed to make the raffle the success it has become. And Dan, who entered the true spirit and helped out in his way, top man
  14. Hardly fair Ian, it used to crash with less than half the number of people who were on there earlier. The technology is ok, but it's not really designed for about 90 to chat at once. Steve did a test which was ok at about 60. He can't really do much more, we do get this for free you know.
  15. its doing well, hasnt actually crashed yet, but its struggling, i think ive seen two draw numbers come up!! Shame really, its lost the spontanaety of having it live. not a lot can be done about that though.
  16. I wholeheartedly agree with you, the basic increase in costs to a business to employ one man on the books is around £3500, it's not just the extra tax and NI, but holiday entitlement of 29 days and sickness, introduction of workplace pensions and a payroll system.
  17. The heats either all there like a blast furnace, or none at all, no happy medium. IMO it's a kettle, if you want t cook on site get a Dutch oven (I did, superb)
  18. Looks positively blue to me:001_rolleyes:
  19. Working in the woods the other day and we commented on the bird song, and the wild primroses in flower, daffs poking their heads up as well, T shirt weather at last. Beautiful
  20. I've had a KK for years, love it, love using it. Under a tarp in the pouring rain the other day it was a life saver, not literally, but there is something primal about getting a fire going, and making a brew. I have the pot stand for the top, crap, and the grill to put over the base, not so bad, but the main thing is it involves FIRE!! I've now put on a new base and new cork, but the rest of it is as good as new, if a little sooted up. Tips, collect pine cones and keep them dry, excellent fuel!!
  21. Well it looks as if its all going to become irrelevant sooner or later, HMRCE look like they are gunning for all industries to comply with PAYE regulations, and supply a leaflet called "Use of Labour Providers...advice on due diligence". And yes it also looks like they will attempt to re-coup unpaid taxes from employers if they feel you should be employing staff on the books as opposed to using the self-employment status many fly under at the minute, this isn't necessarily unpaid taxes of the self-employed, but the evasion of the taxes and NI contributions the employer would have made had the staff been on the books.
  22. The memory loss part is very interesting to me. During my illness, I can only guess at the high level of stress my brain went through, as result, I have a real difficulty recalling events just prior to my admission, ie any of the jobs I had done, or jobs I hadn't done. I suppose it's a coping mechanism, a sort of safety cut out. Luckily, my clients found out PDQ I was ill and all was well, except for one who was a bit of a fool, but he has since been shown the error of his ways in the politest way possible.
  23. Hedgeman, I'd be looking at what you did to lose the clients you had. Was it the quality of your work, rushing to get to the next job, and the standards slipped? Did you become unreliable? Did you become perhaps a little rude or short with them? Can you not win them back if it was just down to price? Can you not talk to at lest the best ones, build a rapport and get back in the saddle? In this last year I've had some tough times, but I've found communication is the strongest tool in the box for an easier life. Simply put, make a call, and make an explanation for your difficulties. It's not a cry for pity, but more of an appeal to their human nature. Do what it takes to get yourself in control of your life and your business.
  24. That's the right attitude, good luck
  25. Mike, how good will you feel when Hi Line ring you back in three weeks time and you have to turn them down because you've found employment. Don't sit and wait, push onwards and upwards.
