  1. I have a wooden carved hare from this Welly, I thought I'd posted pics of it before, must have thought about it and not done it, that is if this is the timber that was moved on to Tim Atkins to play with?
  2. Why would you want an incinerated arsonist to Loler your kit?
  3. If it was taken weeks ago its either in a shed getting a makeover, or long gone to the Continent. Did it have a Tracker or anything to make it traceable?
  4. Or go bust as a business, then set themselves up as a new business name maybe. I wonder if the name on the inspection sheet is worth anything in this case. In just about any other trade it wouldn't be
  5. Hi Ben, have passed this onto to another groundie I know, don't know his availability ATM, but will pm you if I hear anything. he is not a member here so won't see it. Edit: he's already sorted sorry.
  6. Have you looked at the fung and knot apps available from this very site?
  7. Why not integrate it to start with alongside your existing services, just add it in when your quoting. If you know what your talking about the client will listen to what you have to say. It's surprising how you can modify your business and mould it to suit your needs, with a little thought and planning.
  8. I'm doing it large in my XL hoodie, very niiiiiiiiice
  9. I bet rats wonder what they did to deserve such dirty smelly companions to live with. I dislike rats, but with baiting, trapping, shooting and removing sources of food and drink, they move on. They don't like it up em. Good housekeeping outside and in reduces the opportunities for them.
  10. I always rigorously examine my own equipment, unless the missus is handy
  11. that's better than Steves weekend, I'm a happy bunny now
  12. So who would be best to get in for such an inspection. I currently use a local company, but they also sell products and I can't help wondering if they might fail kit to boost sales, or am I a cynical old git?
  13. Get an iPad Mark, they like that
  14. I tried the no food diet last year, it's not all its cracked up to be being small and skinny you know
  15. Wow, now I have a nice warm glow inside of me, my faith in all of humankind is re kindled, and I'm now thinking of tipping the Carol singers and bellowing Ho Ho HO around the village at the top of my voice in a happy Santa type voice. Thank you
  16. I do not know of many employers, whether tree industry or not, who would not allow financial gain to influence the outcome of any H&S check, Wwhether Loler, Puwer, Fire prevention or general H&S. what I have seen in my working life makes a farce of all systems, but that's ok, so long as nobody gets hurt or worse. If they do, it just takes longer to cover it all up that's all. This is why I think it should be an independent, unbiased and un-influenced inspector, at any company. Of course, not all employers cut corners, just some (Not tarring all with the same brush.)
  17. And how come Steve gets wished a Good weekend, and I don't??? Just cos its his forum, I'm not just a number you know (bloomin favouritism, that's what it is)
  18. Hopefully TCD will spy this, he seems to have a good dealer on his doorstep.
  19. Wish I'd said "Yes" now, that's the easier answer cos you aren't asked to explain why
  20. I humbly stand corrected Has inspecting climbing kit in tree work reduced accidents re kit failure due to tighter controls, such as routine inspections, since the Loler regs came out? Has Loler actually made things safer, or is it really a thick wad of paper to cushion the impact of the fall when things go wrong? Anyway, can an employer inspect his teams equipment, in compliance with Loler regs? Or should it be an independent inspector?
  21. I think it's the no-bull approach, does what it says on the tin, represents contractors in disputes and so on. At present, health issues have grossly affected my business "plan" (such as it ever was) and led me to re evaluate the direction I'm headed, in short I had to wait and see, and to an extent, I'm still waiting. How can the AA attract me? I look around my area, and the most successful contractors in Arb are not AA members, let alone AAAC. They have done well enough without the AA moniker attached to their vehicles, on commercial contracts as well as domestic, including local district council work, rail contracts and highways. Why does the AA need me? What can the AA offer that I don't already have, apart from another headache from filling in even more paper and jumping through hoops? The cost is irrelevant, to a point, if I want something then I shall have it, but it needs to deliver, above and beyond what is achievable without it for it to be worth while financially. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-AA, or any other organisation, but I don't think I have ever been asked once in 16years or so if I'm a member of any trade organisation.
  22. I've bought several flasks in time, lately I'm really fed up with the lack of quality that any of them seem to have. Few manage to retain heat for any length of time, sort of the main purpose of them. So I use a Kelly kettle or a JetBoil at work now, hot water every time, no disappointing Luke warm tepid yucky cuppas anymore.
  23. No. I cannot see any way that AA membership would enhance my business. I am a member of an industry related group, the FCA, their help and advice and common sense approach to industry issues encourages me to keep my money with them. Each to their own I suppose.
  24. if this were to be the case, kit would never fail a Loler inspection by a certificated Loler inspector...yet it does. Also, if the climbers etc were so good at their inspections, why was there ever a need for a certificated Inspector at all? Because people were not checking kit properly and it was failing in use. If you inspected your colleagues kit, as a fellow climber, and he fell and was permanently disabled, it went to court, how long would your reasoning stand up under cross examination?
