  1. Hard frost, now it's raining into frozen ground, local radio has warned of freezing rain.....the worst kind of weather I can think of.
  2. George is a sort of cool name.....for a cat. It's a naff name for anything else.
  3. I'm going to jump off a bridge, I can't bear it any longer
  4. Fine example of why I disagree withs dogs on site. Mates dog was let out of the truck at lunch, I wandered off to grab my grub bag, and the two chaps in the truck then dozed off. I heard a bit of a flap across the way, chickens clucking and so on, I wondered if there was a fox about. I get back up to the truck as the normally impeccably behaved Lab returns with a dead bantam in its mouth, one of the clients bantams. Not my job, not my name on the truck, not my dog. But this signifies more than anything that unless you are in a position to have 100% control, 100% of the time, animals should not be on site. It's not necessary, it's not professional, and in an instance like this, it could cost you that client. Not good.
  5. Only on a duck. it may be to do with the peak though
  6. I think it's because of the chinstrap configuration. The chinstrap in a climbing hat is designed to stay secure and keep your helmet on your head. In a forestry hat this is not the case. Tbh on the ground I just leave the chinstrap undone most of the time.
  7. I have the 5 ton ,that's pulled some stubborn stuff about, and the smaller 3ton tirfor a lot lighter for general pulls and hauling across rough ground. If I had to have one, it would be the biggest most capable I could handle. I'm lucky to have an assortment of three tirfor which means I can pull in and lift at the same time if I want.
  8. Them who can ..... Do, them who can't....preach.
  9. Check my last post, forestry exempt now. Formative pruning is silkys and pole saws, that's how we always did it, and still do.
  10. Haaaa!!! Forestry to be removed from Gangmaster Licensing
  11. I thought the gang master licensing system had been removed from the forestry sector anyway now? Can't swear by that, but recall reading it someplace a while back. If anyone can verify this it may be useful.
  12. Just clout Plippy around the ear and ban him from the Ginsters for a week, it may not have been him but heysomeones always to blame
  13. There really is no help for cases such as yours
  14. Cheers Rover, thanks for sharing, now I know where I can stock up on fresh meat and veg at will. (Have long range weaponry, longbow, powered by 6'4" 16 stone buffoon) maybe tap into the off grid power supply too
  15. From my rental agreement, the local council are responsible for any trees on the property, I am responsible for the garden, shrub and hedge maintenance. The trees are a part of the property, and may be there as a screen in agreement with planning to build, noise abatement etc, tread carefully.
  16. Human flesh is reported to taste like a very sweet pork. Which is very nice
  17. I don't think there is any need to plan for a total meltdown of the system, those who can cope will, those who can't wont. Survival of the fittest. The type used to state handouts, sponging off others, will not be able to sponge any longer. They will be dead. This population cull will be beneficial, not a curse. The capable will adapt to adversity, be able to eat off the land, cook over an open fire. The weak see such a disaster as a disaster, the strong see it as an opportunity to get ahead. I don't care, I alright.
  18. Over trousers just pee me off because the rip so easily, then you sweat and get as wet as if you weren't wearing them anyway.
  19. I like the Cut & Climb jacket, took it out today, and the rain just stopped as it knew it couldn't beat me. I don't tend to wear waterproof trousers, waste of time, just dry the trousers when you get in.
  20. I did electrical sub station tree works for a while, we were required to wear flash over suits, chainsaw protection, and hi viz, in all weathers, hot or not. Usual requirement for electrical work in live environments.
  21. How much does it cost to inject against a pathogen, roughly? Is is viable for more an one or two trees at a property? Does it really work? I know it's big business, but the cynic in me questions whether or not it actually works, not whether it sells well.
  22. We did some work at the Colchester hospital a few years back, and the forestry guy had left his forwarding tractor in the secure compound (with guard) over the weekend. Came back on the Monday and every window of every machine was smashed in the compound. No one saw a thing. Only way to help prevent window damage is to board them up, can't say the same about other damage, it's just sickening, mindless stupidity.
  23. Leaving that, and the hung ups should be the end of them. Amateurs. Saying that, I went back to a site the other month where we'd finished last year, and found several hung ups and specimen (two parcels were arboreta) trees felled. Guessing some local scallywags had popped in for some free wood. So is this possible in your case? Easy to jump to the obvious conclusions. Oh and we were the only ones with keys to the gates, but they'd cut a hole in the hedge to gain access.
  24. Bars now gone, Admin playing with different buttons now I reckon.
  25. Snoring was boring, talking about farts is more fun
