  1. Negativity breeds negativity.... but I would only enter such a partnership with someone I trusted implicitly, and I'm sure he would say the same.
  2. this is a valid point, however its also works both ways, so I dont see it as an issue. Well, it hasnt affected me anyway.
  3. I dont know what its like in NI, are things in general dearer than here on the mainland? Hiow many saw shops do you have in your vicinity? Market forces have a lot of effect on prices everywhere. A 200quid difference does seem excessive to me too.
  4. I think its the aches and pains that break down many's will. The head may be strong, but when the meds wear off and the pains kick in every day, even the strongest will crumble. Work smart, work safe. and there is no reason why you cant go on forever.
  5. I 50/50 share with another member. It seems to work ok, each party leaves the machine filled for the next time, we sort of share the running costs as and when without a written agreement. Its not ideal, remembering to arrange dates that its needed so we dont clash, but as we're mates its ok. It is a good way to get started with major purchases, but you do need to trust one another to a certain extent. BTW we are not in any way business partners, totally independent running our own shows. Would I commit to such an agreement in future, I dont think so, and this is not a reflection on the other party, but wouldnt suit my current situation (and I expect his) as much as it did at the time of purchase. But it works.
  6. I never thought about it until my niece suffered with kidney failure. We all tested to see if we were compatible but unsuccessfully. So now I have signed up to donate, if it saves one familys suffering then its a good un:thumbup1:
  7. Fair point, I can understand your feelings on the matter. The only options are to veto Stihl products, though I think Husky have a similar policy, or find a fresh dealer who is willing to accommodate you price-wise. I dont agree from a consumer point of view with any supplier dictating where i would have to buy their products, hardly a free market.
  8. If Jones or any other dealer chooses to ignore Stihls policy, they could lose the right to sell the products, and with a large turn-over you can imagine the consequences. I understand that the policy (Stihl) is to protect all of the dealers, so you have be "face to face" at hand-over. This means that you would then use your local supplier.
  9. I really cant believe you want to let this saw go! It will always earn you at least some beer money, and when you finish college it will be an ideal tool as you start out. I'd seriously reconsider whether you really want to sell it.
  10. I found this company recently, ordered a windstopper sweater, excellent products and service
  11. Sorry to hear this Cerne, not a lot I can add really. had a chap with Tim (your boss) the other day, love his tri-axle ifor with the crane:thumbup1:
  12. And in complete reverse, I have a Dell thingybob laptop and its very good, as opposed the the Sony Viao which was an over-hyped pile of doggy-doo. I shant be buying anything else from Currys as there customer support was at best not very supportive.
  13. I cant speak from experience, but to my recollection I have never seen anyone looking at these, let alone pick up a card.
  14. The Dangerous Tree Co
  15. If its any consolation, at 425 for 3men for the day, you'd be under-cutting me considerably, then I'd be starting a thread too (if I could be bothered) Seems desperate times are taking their toll.
  16. I've tried many makes of chainsaw trousers over the years, and have yet to find any to wear as well as the Stretch-Airs. Eg. I bought a pair of Oregon Fiordlands earlier on for the summer, and thats about how long they lasted!! Now bearing in mind the price difference, and the average time my Stretches have lasted (qbout 2years), that makes the Oregons a very expensive buy!! I've now bought a new pair of Stretches, I dont care what they cost tbh, they are far better than any others. As for the SIPs, I recall they lasted about 7months, so dont even come in as a serious contender.
  17. In the past we've used the back off one of those BT trucks, with basic facilities such as toilet, wash bowl, gas rings and a bench to sit on. It was ok til the vandals found it and smashed it up. It was a usefull shelter right out in the woods though. Doubt we'll bother with another, not worth the grief when its burnt out and smashed up.
  18. Are we taking about total road closure, with diversion routes put in? Or a temporary delay while a limb is cut off or a tree dropped? I'm having a bit of an issue with one particular job and the local council highways dept In the past I have just made a call and they have given the go ahead, now they want something called a TMA form fiiling in with a fee of 315quid, is this usual?
  19. I had the pleasure of serving several royals in my teens at various banquets, and not one of them came across as snotty or superior. The type who do are minor TV "celebs" who think they are something special, and want the world to bow at their feet.
  20. ssts... is that the site safety training scheme, if so I was told also that CSCS superceded it some time ago? Strange that someone still asks for ssts.
  21. Beautiful saws there on that site cheers for the link:thumbup1:
  22. I like the 260, but no way is it in the same league as the 346, let alone a 357.
  23. I have both, and prefer the 346 most of the time, for most jobs. Why carry around a bigger saw than you need most of the day? On 1st thins, the 346 is perfect, nimble and powerful running a 13" bar, on snedding work its a beast, and for zipping through cord for logs its fast enough. If I were limited financially to one saw (of the 2) I would probably plump for the 346.
