  1. Enjoyed that. Some really smooth & gentle rigging & I like the use of the safebloc to slow the chunks down. Did you have someone managing that or did you rely on rope weight?Great job
  2. If on the way back from a job, a clean t shirt & the mandatory squirt of deodorant- no prizes for smelling like gandi's flip flop. Oh & a smile - I like to pretend that I'm not a miserable sod
  3. It's a lot about the technique- you can get it to self tend climbing hand over hand, but it does take practice- I like blaze, but find the super skinny ropes too hard on my hands these days. I cannot see the harness improving it much, but if you want a new harness then
  4. I do remember being younger & less than tactful- they never asked
  5. Ha - I was called a murder a few times working around there
  6. No screaming hippies ?
  7. Some nice pics there John - where are they taken?
  8. Ooooo! Get the video camera out!!!
  9. Some nice rigging & a cool vid. Thanks for posting
  10. Widened & increased height 2mm & dropped 1mm. spare pot so I am experimenting a little
  11. That bad ? Gotta be better than last time .....
  12. Just matching it all up
  13. Bet that sounds magic - olde skool muscle saws are a joy - must be a late 50's early 60's machine
  14. Nasty- what chipper is that? Conehead?
  15. I don't see how - you can cut the hinge finer as you do not have to compensate for the longer fibres if you think it might be a problem.
  16. On the subject of high back cuts, if there is no, or little chance of the tree shooting back on the stump, I make my back cut level with the bottom of the face. Less timber wastage & a reduced chance of over cutting - thoughts?
  17. Gets a +2 for being smart enough to cut a deeper hinge on a back leaner- easier to get the tree to the tipping point 😎
  18. On a treemotion, the leg loops & risers are points of articulation so wear is inevitable. It is often compounded by poor adjustment - where one side is a different length to the other causing uneven loading. Was the other side similarly worn?
  19. Mature Douglas fir - carving big lines in the bark & going nowhere fast. Not worth trying unless you have long gaffs
  20. [ame] [/ame] Good tune
  21. So where do you go from there Reg, Dave? Do you live by different rules & ban them from using the saw how we do, or, when you think they are ready teach them how? I am working with a young lad at the moment & I am seeing not only that dilemma, but several others which are a product of my "professional" habits & methods
  22. I have to admit, that I get annoyed when everything gets delivered quickly & correctly - it's not the same when you don't have to phone up half a dozen times, shouting & screaming just to find out everything is on back order.
  23. With very little media attention (no surprise considering), our government has passed a bill of monumental consequence- the snoopers charter is here ! The right to privacy in our communications & online activities has now been removed. I understand peoples logic of " if you have nothing to hide the why worry?" , but I consider this a serious erosion of basic human rights. Kiss your privacy goodbye - Britain just passed the most invasive surveillance law in the democratic world [OPINION] | The Canary
  24. If I am dismantling a tree I use one. Cannot think of a single good reason why you would not! I own a couple - 3m for small trees & 5m for the rest
  25. So what should people be charging for a inspections? Everyone complains that they don't earn enough as people treat them like glorified gardeners, so where does that leave the inspectors? Guess we are just taking cash out of people's pockets for messing around with there stinking lot & receiving abuse because we fail it because it is only 10 years old & has been frayed like that for the last 6!!! (Rant over)
