I kind of covered that with my earlier two comments.

Buying local produce tends, ridiculously, to be more expensive than the mass produced stuff that many can just about afford and happens to come from supermarkets.
I'm sure everyone would like to eat locally sourced food if they a) could afford it, and 3) there was an adequate supply for everyone.

Karate was included, there were two competitions.

One was conventional with 2 competitors fighting each other. The other style called Kata had only 1 competitor who pretended to fight an imaginary opponent, utterly bizarre. Apparently the idea is to be ditched now.

I’m a dead cert for a gold if they include porn in 2024.

Nonetheless, there is a significant problem which is unlikely to be resolved in any meaningful timeframe.

The answer is not to fetch in cheap labour Mark it lies in training our own young. Labour Party !!! Supposedly the party of the working man 🤷‍♂️“What a joke”🤷‍♂️How does fetching people in to do jobs that can be done by people here if they have some  time and money invested in them help this country long term.

By the way Mark I’m not sure if you are aware but the training to get to HGV standard is not years or months bud it’s weeks and with a fraction of the cash we have spunked on this covid farce we could easy train up as many drivers is required. I work with a few guys whom were trained up on a government scheme as divers in the 80s due to a shortage of the those skills that were required offshore back then so it’s not an unprecedented option.

We have needed a major step-change for a long time now, Globalization has a lot to answer for and if we are to reduce our consumption of oil transporting tat and Avacados inadvertently because of a lack of drivers then so be it

I find locally poroduced items quite cheap, 25kg bags of Maris Piper tatties for £7,50 lasts us ages and is significantly cheaper than Tescos, carrots in 10kg net bags from Harbros for £3, you just need to know where to go,

And if significantly more people shopped locally then the price should in theory come down

It all sounds like a win/win

What would you propose as a (short term) solution to solve the shortage while we train up enough drivers over here?

Payrise :dontknow:

I wonder how many have a HGV licence but don't drive for a living as they get paid better doing other jobs?

Also the whole cpc thing, where instead of being out driving trucks, you sit experienced HGV drivers infront of a computer all day to learn first aid for the tenth time, or how to use a ratchet strap.

I found the very little of the Olympics I saw to be a bit of a bore to be honest ( although pleased we done well ) but as others have said a lot of the events are a bit silly now I think ..BMX , skateboarding , surfing , dressage , golf  etc etc ..I fact I really do not care for subjective / judged sports but prefer quantifiable events ...running , swimming ,weightlifting etc where the winner is proven not chosen !!  most of these sports are not participated in by most of the world anyway !!   wokeness is showing it's ugly head here as well ...

Yes bmx, skateboarding, surfing is judged, but so is the gymnastics, judo, boxing, fencing and others that have been Olympic sports for years. Bmx freestyle is basically gymnastics with a piece of metal on wheels between your legs. Gymnasts have sprung floors the others have 15ft ramps
