I don't doubt that lockdown would've been a negative influence for some kids but I'd think that for others it could be a positive. There are a lot of individuals that don't derive great mental health from 'normal' childhood life, and being away from school, socialising and other pressures of living in society might have been a happier time. They could have struggled just as much with lockdown ending, but the headlines wouldn't focus on that.

Personally, I thought much of the restrictions imposed did go too far, but lockdown itself was not a negative experience for me as an individual.

In the longer term I suspect some kids will have issues because of it but the majority will learn from the experience at an emotional level and may gain some resilience. I can't think of a generational event before that caused ongoing, widespread mental health problems for kids that experienced it. A lot of kids had WW2 in their childhood and it didn't lead to a generation of fuddled adults.

Social media and junk food too, like most things in life have good and bad points, depends what you take from them. I wonder how many young girls will be unhappy in their bedroom this weekend due to their use of social media, and how many will be excited and dreaming for the future following The Lionesses on social media instead.

It could be argued that in the long-term, Social Media and Junk Food are far more damaging to children's mental and physical health. Discuss.
I think France at least is making progress on both fronts.

I could 42 adopt the tactics you hide behind and post up a dumb arse pic that in no way detracts from the fact you are firmly in the category mentioned by another member earlier, anyway the big difference between the two issues you describe, as valid as they may be and the state enforced lunacy you supported is that I can in some respects control what my children eat and indeed can also if required monitor or restrict internet/social media access. I could not reopen schools, allow mask free learning, allow limited/unlimited travel or visitation of family or friends, enable access to dental and other non essential but still important health care etc etc etc . What I could  and did do is stop the vaccination of my kids with a totally unnecessary and unproven vaccine despite a great deal of pressure from NHS Scotland and their school.
Id like to know how many of the original covid warriors on here, knowing what they know now are  still taking the vaccinations offered themselves , still happy to allow their children to be vaccinated regularly.

I don’t know trig, we could bang on about it forever, it still isn’t going to change what happened.

The more people bang on about it, the more people realize we where all lied to and all conned into accepting the BS the more is will stay in out collective consciousness and the less likely we are to allow it to happen again. Hence why I added that quote regarding those that forget the past are destined to repeat it.

Im not sure why you think other people are of the opinion that banging on about it will change whats happened though? I have yet to see any evidence for your line of reasoning, literally no one is suggesting what you seem to believe.

Not hiding behind anything Nd, I just can't be bothered trying to have a calm, reasoned
discussion with you, it's not possible. Besides, there's nowt wrong with a bit of humour to lighten the mood sometimes.

Lockdowns, (and other associated mitigation measures), were a necessary evil. Hugely damaging obviously, but necessary in the circumstances nonetheless. I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in that viewpoint, but if I am then so be it. Incidentally, had we had an honest and competent government at the time then some of the negative consequences could have been significantly lessened. Also, there were some positive aspects that you tend to overlook.

At the end of the day it's in the past, you can't change anything. Doesn't matter how much you rant and whine about it on here. There's a host of far more important issues that urgently need addressing. This topic wastes far too much bandwidth.
