Warm banks coming to the UK this autumn, these are places people who can't afford to heat their homes due to energy costs can go to during the day.

 

I'm sure 30p Lee (Anderson) will tell people they can heat their houses with one log and a lump of coal a day in 2022.

 

Before anyone jumps on, when I was a young kid we didn't have central heating and upstairs was bleeding cold, but that was 40 odd years ago.

Ah were reared the same, in 900sq of unheated bungalow, except for the solid fuel range and the open grate in the living room.

A very good point. If anything has changed in the last 40 years it's human psychology, not physiology. Especially since we no longer really get cold winters due you you know what. To my mind, the only people that should need such warm banks are the elderly or infirm.

 

I reckon most of us over a certain age didn't have CH as nippers. Only 30% of households had it in 1970, 47% in 1975.

I doubt it, do you burn more fuel in the winter to keep your house at a comfortable temperature or do you go cold and think, well we managed 40 odd years ago so we'll manage now.

You’d expect most of em (that tell u they cant heat their homes) to be able to keep warm with the extra insulation they have packed round their guts and arses! Actually warm banks is a great idea, I’m sure only the needy will use them and not the same parasites that u see filling their bags at food banks. I doubt the latter could be arsed to walk there anyway.

I heat my home to a level I can afford. We have only installed Double Glazing this year. That’s been 7 years in an uninsulated Farmhouse with original single glazing and rotten leaky frames. So say that upstairs was uncomfortable cold in the winter  is an understatement. We generally kept the the kitchen and living room and at bedtime it was Water Bottles all round. (Not for me of course)
 

We managed 30-40 years ago in such conditions, we’ve managed til now. It might not be nice but it certainly won’t kill us nor anyone who is not classed as vulnerable. 
 

There is far to much whinging from the dregs of society.

I agree they are a good idea, as for food banks I don't know who uses them. I do know the Royal Stoke hospital has opened one just for NHS staff.

A good idea? Just go for a brisk walk with a jacket on and you’re roasting. Or go to a shopping centre, they’re roasting as well with loads of free seating, power sockets and free Wi-Fi. These dossers just want more for nothing.
