Supply and demand must factor into it all. I don't think any haulage firm is going to have an extra 25% or whatever employee's kicking about for 8 months just in prep for the 4 month Christmas run up. Shirley it is, or was far easier and cheaper to just draft in drivers from abroad when needed. In fact I bet it's far cheaper to train up drivers abroad then bring them over here temporarily.

why do you think it is the Governments responsibility ?  it is up to the industry surely ?  would you blame the Government if there was a shortage of Tree Surgeons ?  not really there responsibility is it !! ??

Why do we have a minister for transport and no minister for tree surgeons?

Must be the Tories

I didn't say that (for once). The blame lies on the mugs who believe what the newspapers tell them.

It has but what can be done. It's no good having a load of hgv drivers when they aren't needed for a good 8 months of the year.

Who's saying they will not be needed in 8-12 months?

A HGV Driver is for life, not just for Christmas. :D

Because Tree Surgery seems to be a minimum wage job? Might as well have a ministry of Tesco Check-out Girls. :D

Incoming! :D

I that was correct it would be great, drivers left in their droves because the pay and facilities were shit. Talking to our kid, the money isn't bad but the facilities and the way drivers are treated in RDC's is diabolical.
