Good remedies for the bites that work....is to warm a spoon in some boiling water (let it cool a little) then rub the spoon over the bite. Then simply rub some tooth paste on the bite and leave to dry. The spoon draws out the anti coag that the flies pump in during the bite and the toothpaste dries the bite out.

The other that is a more recent discovery for me is to apply Ice onto the bite. Both work I used a bag of frozen peas on the last bite and it stopped the itch immediately after.

I've got 6 bits on me at the moment. One that's on my left shoulder and has swollen up so much I resemble quasimodo. They are a nightmare this time of year.

Nice one, I can see the spoon thing working - bit like a hot poultice. How long after been bitten does the ice work?

I usually get nipped on the legs by the blighters when stood on the back of my canal boat , steering.

 

The best thing I have found is Sudocrem.

I find pints of Thatchers Gold does the trick here..

Doesn't work for me , even midges laugh at that stuff and hardcore horseflies are attracted to it , you do get to smell like a hookers handbag though .
