None of us can party like it's 1999 anymore John, but you need medical help mate, seriously.

Yes, we're all rough tough timber men who don't bother our NHS unless we need stitches, but this sounds different.

Everyone is different, I go to bed at 10.15 ish partly out of fatigue and boredom.

If I get passed 10.30 I sort of get a second wind and can go through to midnight with no ill effect.

I always wake up at about 3.30 and stare into the inky blackness for an hour or so.

FTR normal bedtime should for me be 21:30-22:00, often goes over a bit and live with it but significantly over 2300 is well into danger area.

 

 

My Mrs is exactly the Same for over 15 years, she has been to the docs and had tests and all's well , she will suffer headaches and feel like poo the whole week if she does not get to bed early or has disturbed sleep ie when I roll in from my one night a week trip to me local pub causes murder .

Do you suffer with stress/anxiety? I do, if I don't get enough rest I start to feel the same as you are describing. Although I know there is nothing physically wrong with me I fell like shite for days. If I'm resting properly stress very rarely affects me.

I was just going to say the same as above, I'm the opposite the longer sleep I have the rougher I feel. If I have a broken sleep I wake up feeling great, strange but true. I have between 4 -5 hrs a night and a very very light sleeper.

Not far off the mark. :thumbup1: Most likely I do live with stress and anxiety; although more the latter which I reckon has become so ingrained it contributes to those now common modern ailments aka chronic fatigue. I'm in that club of having big gear on the never never and I swear I will never do it again; a LOT of heartache; timber goes quiet and the panic sets in. That ol cortisol is probably way over the upper limit a lot of the time.

 

I would describe it like certain forms of malnutrition; your head doesn't feel connected to your body. Very rarely do I switch off from work.

 

Am I that worn out? I'm hardly on a saw anymore, or dragging winch cables. 90% of the time I'm sitting in one of two cabs pulling mini-levers.

If your unable to sleep in to catch up or nap in the afternoon you will be sleep deprived.

 

I generally wake at 5.30 to 6 am every day, but if I've had a late night I will fall asleep in the chair after tea and catch up.

 

Sleep depravation is very debilitating and can actually kill if taken to extreme I believe, its a recognised torture technique.

I saw a program about sleep and it said that if you're only getting 6 hours a night, then after a few days you'll be functioning the same as someone who's been awake for 48 hours. The danger is you don't realise it's so bad.

 

Try some meditation, downloading the headspace app is a good way to start. I bet you'll notice a big difference after a couple of weeks.
