Yep, row of 60ft connys to be reduced by 50%. Subbing for a gardening firm. Started off ok but half way through it the wind really picked up and because a lot of the wind protection of the hedge had gone, the rest was really susceptible to the gales. Was getting pulled all over the place, so pulled pin about 11.30. Got half a days wage, still in one piece. I'm happy. Was clinging on for dear life at some points, groundies were utter twonks; no regrets.

At short notice from the client (Headmaster) who gave us a fixed date, we felled 5 poplars at a school in town.

Now the Headmaster won't pay us until we re-instate the grass as we churned a small corner of his playing field up with 2 tractors a 4x4 and a truck.

FFS did he think we where going to airlift the trees out...?

Ha that's funny! Gotta take the rough with the smooth. I remember peppering a lawn with holes when dismantling a tree as it was obviously quicker than lowering it. I was dreading facing the customer but they didn't even bat an eyelid. Even gave us a tip!!

I meant to add, we walked away from the job today not due to the 90kph wind and rain but because when the client sees the stumpgrinder is not an effing corkscrew that lifts stumps out with a satisfactory 'pop' he will throw his arms up in that Gallic manner and cry "ZOOT ALORS Le Perfidious Anglais!!!"

We postponed climbing a hollow beech for retrenchment pruning and headed to the woods to fell with the wind, got there and got 3 call outs once we were ready to go:001_rolleyes:

we went to them, one 45 degree connie held up with tirfor then climbed one 70ft connie straight fell as root ball was lifting 18 inch out of floor :sneaky2: and another similar connie already laying flat, that one still lays flat on the floor just enough done for our fence man to quote. Our second team was on the last hedge plant of the season this morning and joined us for the afternoon. Had 80mph winds at worst during the day but news said it reached 106 over night:001_huh: all in all not a bad day and home by 6

Felling when the root ball your stood on is moving is a strange experience that makes your bum cheeks hold on to anything close by:lol:
