Hi SKY HOW do you do this then with that EXTRA BIOMASS YOUR GOING ON ABOUT THEN THANKS JON

No idea what you mean Jon??:confused1:

The domestic RHI is not metered, they assess your house, so if they decide your house requires a 40KW boiler you get paid at the 40KW rate, if you chose to heat your pool with the boiler through the summer thats fine, as you would not receive any further payment.

HI NFG you good weather out there my mate not like here on the Mendip hills summers only just come longest day 3 days ago night will be getting in soon thanks Jon

Hi Jon,

Yes the weather is good here 30 degrees today & rising.

The black spiral of hose works well in the sun, but the thermo tubes work on cloudy days & it does not need to be hot, over winter when it was -5 the tubes would produce heat - (in winter we also have our Rayburn running)

We have 18 tubes which is sufficient for our needs hot water wise.

I recommend you speak to Contemporary Energy as they are very good & I would imagine a 2 * 30 tube array would work well at very low ongoing cost once installed.

Paint some ordinary house radiators in matt black paint and mount them in a sunny spot near the pool. Run a piece of copper pipe from just below the surface of the pool into the bottom pipe on each rad. Put a return pipe from the top of each rad down into the pool (must also end below the surface). Prime the radiators by sucking water through.

Once the sun shines and heats the radiators up, natural convection should cause the water to warm up in the radiator and circulate naturally into the pool. I've seen this working but not built one myself though!

Thermal mass stoves/heaters work best where a slow release of warmth is required over a long period, several hours to overnight. And is mainly dependant on:

• the total size of the thermal mass

• time taken to heat it to final temp.

• final temperature attained at end of heating

• exchange of heat from thermal mass to air, liquid, other surfaces

Thermal mass works best where warmth is needed at a steady rate and at a lower operating temp., than that supplied by a boiler with rads system. Thermal mass heaters don't so much heat a space making you warm. They tend to keep the chill from a space, so you don't get cold. So such a heater coupled with a swimming pool may help to prevent the water dipping below a certain temp. but won't really do much to 'heat' that amount of water. Plus such will be the draw of heat from thermal mass to water, that the mass may well have to be constantly heated. So any savings may be minimal.
