No doubt some of you have had the conversation or ones like it, where the person you're talking to says they have a chainsaw but as they don't use it in a professional way they can see no point in getting any ppe.

Given how dangerous chainsaws are, do you think the time has come to make purchasing a chainsaw the same as that of guns and how difficult would it be to enforce?

Whilst it's possible to hurt other people with a chainsaw (aka texas chainsaw massacres) there are a lot easier ways to do it, in which case we should ban everything from biros to kitchen knives. I have so many tools I can hurt myself with in my workshop by using them badly (screwdrivers , drills, planes chisels.....) - should we ban all of those as well?

Yes why not then we can smuggle in loads of 362s and make a fortune we all have to come up with a better idea than swallowing them to come through customs.

Then we could do the same with angle grinders cut off saws circular saws

Impossible

It would mean legislation to retrospectively control the sale import and use of saws and you would need to control the use of sooo many existing saws, the logistics would be horrendous.

Saws aren't that dangerous, certainly not dangerous enough for that kind of "big brother" control.

I know dozens of extremely competent climbers and cutters that don't have tickets. Come to think of it the ones I regard as the most competent are the ones with no tickets, that also rolls out to machine drivers:confused1:
