I needed to remove a clump of 6 to 12 inch ash between the road and my garden fence. It would have been difficult to take the fence down so I cut the first two that were close to it to just over fence height, then used the stumps to bounce the rest over it. Had to avoid several of the wife's shrubs/trees in the garden. Bearing in mind it is not my profession and I only had a foot or so either side of my drop zone, it gave me a big grin to do it without any error or damage. Cut a lot bigger in the past but I think that series of fells comes top of my favourites list.

I enjoy the rigging side of things. Did our CS 41 tickets earlier this year so it's been cool putting it into practice.

I like it when people just want it felled, "we will clear it up" they say.

Great! Pull the saw out, put it on the deck, collect the cheque, drive off without a backward glance.

This is the one for me :001_smile:

There are a few favourite things in the day to day trials of tree and hedge world, but on balance my favourite one has always been taking the cheque off the customer on their doorstep, folding it in half and putting it in my wallet.

Yep favourites got to be doing call outs, you never know what it's going to be till you get there, just a small branch on the side of the road or a massive tree that takes all night

My car stinking of Douglas sap at the end of a day doing forestry, being so in touch with the seasons, the privilege it is to climb and interact with such an immense force of nature, the communication with the tree as you navigate a challenging climb, the views, talking b****cks at lunch time, being treated like a celebrity by the general public, being treated like a member of the royal family by generous clients, that rockstar feeling you get at the end of a really good day, sitting at my computer studying the science of trees with a cup of tea at the end of the day... Lot's I like about this job really!
