Only a bit of fun Kev . The customer had quotes that varied by such a large margin I am curious to know how you all see it. Now take another swig of that rum and price it.

Out of interest how would you guys price to remove 20 mature conifers down a drive with good access. All of them a foot to eighteen inches in diameter at the base and about 25/30 feet tall.Nothing in the way and all arisings to be taken off site. No stumps to be ground.

Bob depending on kit and how much i had made that week would depend on my price and if i really wanted the job.

They could be felled up the drive, lifted out with a tractor and put into a monster high sided trailer and then tipped out in a corner and dealt with on bonfire night. So as little as £350 to cover ninja farmer and me with a saw doing minimum fells and maybe a few undercuts to squeeze trailer down. Or as much as £3k and sub it out to the TW/Transit brigade who could lower it all to the deck, look good in all their fancy new bling from the Catalogue and get them to do it for £700 and i could sit back and watch from the cafe.

The variables are huge, or maybe its a trick question because its bird nesting time as we all hang up our saws for 6 months, unless we do utility, that doesnt count, you can spike all day and wreck nests all night and thats all ok in the eyes of the tree police!

Maybe they don't pay NI and or are on the dole and working on the side. Also, with so much gear being stolen. Perhaps they didn't pay for the gear they're using or paid a much reduced price and know where they can get more if 'theirs' brakes.

if it was a "friend in need", do it for a fry up! (Although I still haven't had the fry up I was promised last time I did a job for a friend 😬)

 

If it was Mr awkward and I wasn't really bothered, could be £150-200 / tree + weigh in for green waste.

 

It's an interesting one, with your big kit, time on site could be a day or less, stick it in a corner, sort it out later.

 

Mondeo man could be there a fortnight faffing around.

 

On reflection, 1500-2000 if there were no "difficult" customer issues I guess and there's still wiggle room if it was a job that I really wanted to challenge for.

For the OP, you could shake yourself senseless trying to fathom someone else's pricing policy. Even though it grates when you lose one you really wanted, it's just one of life's great mysteries.

 

We quoted for a site clearance recently, PM said he had 3 quotes, mine and 1 other were pence apart but 3rd was 65% less. So they were going for that one.

 

I can't fathom that unless:

 

Someone is taking work at a loss for work's sake.

 

The PM is trying his arm.

 

The quotes are not like-for-like.

 

On reflection, we may have dodged a bullet on that one. I now know about one of my mates with a swing shovel who had to take legal action for payment from this outfit on a different project.

Its a joke. Just quote what you believe you are worth and let the idiots get on with it. Some muppet advertises tree reports on google every now and again for £79!!! Just devalues the industry.
