I quoted to take a huge Beech stump out last year, customer gave the job to another firm because "they were cheaper" they made a rite balls of it! did'nt even grind all of it out just covered it with spoil. Customer then paid us to do the job properly! moral of the story is you get what you pay for :thumbup1:

Stuff what everyone else is doing/ charging, do a good job and the work will follow.

These guys are just hungrier and harder working than you, simples!

£200 is better than nothing, there are going to be weeks on end you are not going to make any money, months perhaps, maybe even a year and come the end of it, not made a profit. This is self employment.

The time you are sitting here moaning you could be dragging brash through a conservatory .

Had a job this month, 5 large Leylandii with terrible access, everything chipped and away, allowed 3 days for 3 men - £1800.

Didn't get the job.

Came across 2 guys working out of a newly built chip box made of G clamps and ply on the back of a trailer pulled by a disco.

I watched with interest as they proceeded to take 14 days to complete the job and left a mess, I also hear they brought in 2 extra men towards the end.

Then found out they charged....£800

What a waste of a job.

Not prepared to compete with that.

It happens, nowt you can do and it is very frustrating. You sound like you've got your pricing structure set for your circumstances (i.e. running costs, wages, etc.) so don't beat yourself up; we've all been there.

A few years back I priced the removal of a large London plane on an exclusive private close I was desperate to get into. A beast of a job involving a lot of rigging, lot of dragging and a lot of cutting; I went in at £1'500.00 + vat (a low price for me but I wanted to get an 'in' into the area), it got done for £500.00.......

They might well have cut it all out and left it in the garden. If I were the homeowner and I was in the position of saving £440 and having to take a few loads of rubbish to the dump I'd do it!

Doesn't really matter though, if you're uncle had tits he'd be your auntie. Move on and don't worry about it!

They could have had a wee chipper took it through the house and left all the chips on site. just because they are cheaper than you does not mean they made no money.

As others have said it makes no difference set your rate and you get jobs you get and lose what you lose.

Tommy, he could be a labyboy but he would still be your uncle even though he had tits so that would not make him your aunty or would it?
