As with anything off-road its the driver behind the wheel makes the difference as the weather it gets stuck or not and just how stuck it is if it dose.

A loaded IW trailer or a loaded Land Rover will sink further than a loaded Unimog with comparative tyre pressure.

There are a lot of people who drive mogs that are steering wheel attendants skilled in other things rather than drivers skilled in the art of driving off-road who are time served in 4x4/6x6 truck and other wheel machine

Lets face it any idiot can get stuck its not exactly hard, the art is not getting stuck and knowing the vehicle limits and that of the ground, as they say discretion is the better part of valour!

I admit it i'm highly skilled in the art of driving on road, and if anyone can get a unimog buried to its axles its me.

To be fair its only happened twice, most of the vehicles i drive have road based tyres at high pressure, so you really have to read the lay of the land first and not go for it.

In my opinion though Unimogs are more than just 4x4 off road vehicles, don't buy one for that reason alone.

I bought my Mog ex Council from Germany.I went over there a few times looking for one and ended up spending 30% more than I had intended.

They are complicated expensive machines and I felt more comfortable buying one off a established dealer than some bloke with one for sale.

Like any vehicle the more you pay the better you seem to get.

Unless you do the fixing yoourself, they can get expensive very fast.

How many cube of chip would a typical Mog with chip box hold? Presumably you would have to run a bigger chipper to optimise things? 8", 9"? And what would your legal carrying capacity be?

And can you get those 'Dukes of Hazzard' airhorns for them?

God, my imagination is running riot!

Lookkk -you rely shouldnt have a Mog -mate......sorry

Ask yourself do you really need it or do you just fancy the idea of driving around in a Mog ?

Whatever you have to spend double it...

Alex Price is the man, if you buy from him it will be alot more expensive than Atkinson Vos but there is a reason for that.

Atkinson Vos can be very good if you know what your buying..

I ran 2 Unimogs, the first was great the second literally bankrupted me.

If I had my time again I'd do my HGV and get a 4x4 or 6 wheel wagon.

Makes far more sense and in the long run is cheaper to buy and run plus there's alot more choice out there.

Mogs also work best in an owner operator scenario as the driver has a feel for the machine, cares about how it's treated and used and knows if something doesn't 'feel' right.

This is all good advice!!!

I have a mog, it costs me a ridiculous amount to repair and maintain. I would say on average between £5K and £10K per year, although so far this year I have spent £20K:scared1:

BUT I still have money in the bank, it makes me far more than it costs.

I hear what Buzz is saying re HGV's, I have thought long and hard about changing mine, but an HGV would not do the things my mog can. :001_smile:

Find me an HGV that would go up and down here :001_tongue:
