Tree Sap In hardwood trees ?

At which time of year do hardwood trees especially Beech and Oak have the most amount and least amount of sap in them.

My son tapped a large silver birch, collected the sap and boiled it down to make syrup. When the leaf buds are just opening, they do run like a tap.

The buds actually form in the Autumn, the fatten and open in spring.

The volume of sap is constant throughout the year , it just moves more in the growing season than it does when dormant ,the chemical make up ( sugars ) will vary throughout the year as well . Green wood weights of a given volume do not really vary from the growing and dormant season .
