Drugs at work

Alcohol is obviously a drug. But, it's effects do wear off, eventually. Worked with an alcoholic once, great guy, then he'd have a binge after staying dry for a few weeks, and have a day off sick, at least I didn't have to put up with him drunk. Unpleasant experience was working with a man who claimed to use cannabis for "medicinal purposes", my backside, he was hooked on it, and was hard work, had to put up with his extreme paranoia and tantrums, temper flaring up to psychopathic levels. Also almost killed by an idiot with a back actor of a JCB whilst he was smoking a joint at the time. A lot of drug and alcohol users will deny they have a problem, cannabis users especially, always bang on about how ganja is safer than beer etc, and can't see they have issues themselves, shrugging off criticism of their beloved drug and skinning up another joint. Says it all really.

I worked with an alcoholic once lovely bloke, the weed user complete scum.

Seems a little skewed to me! I know plenty of alcoholics that fit your description of the weed user, and plenty of weed users that fit your description of the alcoholic.

You have to remember if alcohol was discovered now there is no way it would be a legal or acceptable drug, it's long history in our society has made it acceptable.

I have no problem with weed or those that smoke it. I smoked everyday for ten years before eventually getting bored of it. I do have a big issue with those who bring a danger to the work site be it their attitude or intoxication.

Alcohol is the one drug that will kill you, even if you stop taking it. Worse than heroin or crack. But I'm not going on my high horse, IMO no place at work for either, if you want rec drink/drugs, do that in your own time, be clear for work. It's called responsibility. I rather lose 50% of a work force than have one death on my conscience.

On a whole I find the worst are coke heads .. centre of attention ,deluded idiots who I can not stand to be around or listen too.

At least the weed smoker will keep himself to himself and just get on with things in there own little world with out turning it in to a He-man drama!

The drinkers ... Well I may fall in to that category

Not passing judgement but I got a point. Stuff gets nicked big time to pay for a fix, a smoke, a trip whatever. How often do we moan about kit going walkies on this forum. Beyond me how you can condone misuse when in the mix people using aren't that far away from those that are nicking. Can't stand it personally.

Drink and drug abuse is all around us unless you are running about with your eyes wide shut . If you tried to eliminate those that do or dont drink, smoke or take drugs you are in for small pickings for your workforce. What someone does for recreational purposes in their own time is their own business as long as the problem stays at home and is not brought to work. On a recent site induction ( two mind numbing hours ) it was the main contractors policy in the event of "ANY" accident to shut the site gate and muster the entire workforce to one point where they were to stay while a medic was called to /drinkdrugs test every single person . This was company policy and it was a take it or leave it signed agreement on the day. Its things like this that would have implications for users and would get them on the black register.
