If I found any of my staff was even a drug user never mind "using" on the job I am afraid its hit the road Jack. If there was an accident and it was known I had condoned drug abuse in the work place I would be in it too. Bad press/unreliable/criminal even-after the money and effort that goes into setting up your own arb business the thought of it being ruined by some druggy appalls me. Not only do drugs have a serious detrimental effect to the user, this can also spill over onto other reliable staff. If a lad has had a little too much to drink the night before he can carry brush all morning and wear it off. I would rather pick a lad up for work if hes over the top. Trees, chippers, chainsaws and tools mixed with drugs is a super cocktail for serious injury and or death. I have first hand experience of class A,B & C drug abuse-horrendous. Stay safe...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.

Do you think it's easy to spot? One of our climbers decided he'd be better off with another company as he was working on rail for us and his new company he took his PTS with him . As it was a change of sponsor he had another drug test which he failed , I suppose looking back you could see changed in his personality but nothing that really stood out . It's scary I really believe as an industry we should have random D&A tests.

I reckon you would be in for a big shock if all workers were tested for drink, drugs and puff . Especially when you think that some of these drugs will still test positive weeks after they are used. Probably loose half the workforce .

This is so true! I've got a very good friend that WAS in a very good job, until he got random tested. Turned out he liked a smoke, on the weekend.

Bit harsh I think. He'd worked his way off the tools into a managerial position, only to be told to clear his desk.
