I think perhaps the picture is deceptive and the guy is only standing on one foot.

The spikes come with the short American style gaffs as standard, and I've found they don't protrude as far as my bashlins, which have a spacer welded on the side of the leg-iron. I found the short American gaffs to gaff out a lot, so have recently changed to the long gaffs, not shown here. I used a contract climber years ago who used the euro gaffs but I thought the long ones were better designed to slip further into the timber rather than tear a strip off. The long gaffs are still just short enough to not stab in the ground when walking around.

Alright lads, I need some replacement hydraulic oil for the Carlton Stump grinder, which is originally filled with Citgo AW32. I'm getting some automatic transmission fluid to top up the log splitter reservoir, so my question is, can I use the same oil for the grinder or is there a big difference? What's your take on this?

Further investment in the form of a mobile log splitter and new forst chipper to replace the timberwolf. Build pole barn and extend the woodstore by 20%. Extend the house to add dining room and another bedroom. Finish the 10month Isuzu grafter project! -
treeworker sell the Austria 2 and 1, the number 2 is my all time favourite harness, and I use the kolibri nowadays. Still use the Austria 2 for leylandii work where i only need a lanyard, it's so light and minimal, and the leg loops are a great design. The kolibri click tried to emulate these leg loops but got them the wrong way around.

Yellow Pages = waste of money. We always ask where a customer gets our number, and it was NEVER Yellow Pages.

Yeah it's a bit clunky but if you zoom in 4 clicks the trees start to appear. Hover over them for a while and the details appear. You can also add trees yourself, get them verified and the details are added to the database with your name on. cool.

I think it's a good idea provided it shows professional people and not cowboys. Personally I think the industry is a mystery to most, we often get an audience and a lot of positive comments once people see the skills involved. It could be an informative behind the scenes look at the industry and might help improve our image as serious skilled tradesmen.

We were looking at taking a tree down that's overhanging some power lines, and the old dear says, "I can turn the electric wires off from inside the house". Hmmm don't think so!

It's not covered by the TPO because it was self-seeded. (Hmm, yeah like 99% of the trees in the world) You're allowed to cut it down without permission because it's just a conifer. How often do you sharpen your blades? Can you cut that stump down below ground?

I've had the Cat B15 for 2 years and it's still immaculate. I carry it in my pocket, it gets surrounded by sawdust, jiggles next to keys, gets dropped and gets wet. No complaints at all with the sturdiness. There's a newer version, the B15Q, which has a faster processor.

The Hummer only has 512Mb of RAM which is paltry. The CAT B15 (which I have got) has 1Gb, which is OK but it struggles sometimes streaming video or running multiple apps. 4Gb would be nice. There is a definite lack of performance in the rugged category.

I used to sub for them and spent ages running round quoting jobs in seriously undesireable areas. Stockton and Middlesbrough mainly. They seem to specialise in housing association and council estates. They added on a percentage and most of the time killed the job, so it became a big waste of my time and I stopped working for them.

Yeah I understand how the forces are multiplied at the anchor points, we have a groundie who does a lot of rope rescue with the fire brigade, where they regularly set up cable ways to traverse, lower and lift casualties. The tandem pulley limits me to 13mm rope so something stronger than XTC would obviously be better. Or I could use a bigger diameter line and a larger pulley I guess. We're currently using 13mm XTC for the main zip line, and 10mm marlow control/retrieval line. We hang a 5m length of 14mm from the pulley with a prussik loop onto a crab and sling, to give us some height adjustment at the working end.
