Local one I use has been cashless since last year, its either cheque or paid in via your debit card, have to take photo id too else wont even let you on the yard and are also signs and police posters saying scrap will not be taken from walk ins or people arriving by taxi.

it's been ID and bank transfer or cheque for a while around here, however.

When I spoke to one of the local scrappies earlier this year he said that because catalytic converters contain precious metals they come under different rules to those here and can still be paid for in cash with no ID, which if true makes a mockery of the whole idea.

our scrap yard have to show driving licence and utiliiy bill with same address on. there after have to have driving licence and the reg plate has to be registered as well to your address. paid by bacs into a account no cheques issued. thats why stuff being nicked has gone through roof as the easy money selling nicked scrap has gone. thats the government for you come up with these ideas but forget about the spring board effect it has.

its now so hard work with scrap do very little now. used to get a lot clearing stuff for people. but with waste carriers licence have to have a permit with council its all money to the pen pushers and for what it costs make very little now for normal light scrap. any good scrap is already been taken by the scrap dealers themselfs.

Unless you are "of no fixed abode", i.e. a traveler, in which case you can be paid cash, as you may not have a bank account and to not offer you cash would be discrimination and possibly racist, apparently.

You 100% on that? Hadn't heard of that exemption

Ide heard that too dave, something to do with human rights,as those constantly on the move obviously dont have an address, and have to be treated as special dispensation, and paid cash as part of their business.
