VOSA targets ‘White Van Man’

Mate, its just the cost of doing business

How much for a suite of NPTC certs, Insurances, Saws, PPE?

How much in overloading fines at a pound per kilo?

How much time lost in extra trips to tip off or run more than one vehicle?

Spot on.

" I don't top trees or wear spikes on a prune" yet will put a couple of tonnes on a transit & risk it.

I'm not risk adverse, however I hate giving the government money in fines & sit at home not earning when they impound my vehicle

Just get your mum to drive you to work then!

If I was going the big kit owning route (unless I went with agricultural vehicles), that's exactly what I'd do (to start with). Laugh as much as you like - zero wages, makes tea/lunch, errand runner on hand.

If your business model won't stand the cost of a driving licence category it's time to pack up

Of course that's the plain reality of it (at the moment) but it doesn't make it any less unfair.

Moot point anyway. Give it a few years and all the pre 1997 licence holders will have retired/died. Then everything's "fair," people will forget about the silly 3.5 tonne/7.5 tonne difference and the government can get on with the next round of nannying (and grandfathering of course) for political gain.

Personally, I think they should make the restricted o licence simpler, but extend it to include 3.5 tonners. That way everyone would be on a level playing field and 3.5 tonners would be a lot safer.

Sounds like a really good idea to me.

Where does that end though? Will people be down plating 3500 to 2500 to come under the restriction and continue overloading it anyway.

Or would any LGV be included?

If you were 17 in 1997, your now 33/34, the retirement age is rising fast, so I think your talking around 40 years, hardly "a few years"

Wouldn't be too bad if the costs stopped there, but they go on and on

Fuel for the vehicles is crippling never mind the effects of all the folks employed to try and make you go bust before you even get to work.

The need for all the licences, certificates, tests etc etc is understandable to a point, it is the cost of them all that is damned hard to swallow.

Add cpc stuff to it all now just to be on the safe side. :001_rolleyes:

When will they be doing retests on car drivers just to make sure they are safe? Never, because there would be uproar.

I hate to burst your "its not fair, big bad government bubble" but the legislation is Europe wide, Brussels is where you need to complain

The unemployed don't effect me, and I am not aware of anything they do to make me go bust, by and large I just drive past them without a second thought, as for "retests" I have just paid for my MANDATORY medical to retain my LGV licence, not much uproar from professional drivers.

How long have I got then? Passed my test in '77 when I was 17 and had hoped for a bit longer than 'a few years'. Darn...:001_smile:

I prefer to think of myself retiring early very rich because I had an unfair advantage rather than dying thanks
