Fair enough but instead of O license hassle could work towards it with MOTs 1st. For some reason farmers are turned a blind eye on, with operating weights, vehicle speeds, kids driving far bigger than legally allowed, rebated fuel, working hours etc. Fert bags swinging on front of telehandlers on dual carriageways with no beacon. As mentioned many times O for a level playing field. Thats were the fix it when its broke mentality is plentiful.

No disrespect to the professional farmers that operate well.

Farming is a victim of its own success and the development of tractors, once upon a not very long ago your farmer was trundling about in a small tractor at 18mph flat out, down a big hill with a tail wind. He was a harmless thing that you came across on a country lane.

These days its all about the youth in a 50K tractor spanking up the dual carriage way driving it like he stole it.

Legislation will catch up but as I said it takes a while.

Treequip, sadly its not all youths bombing around in 50k tractors, its a well known fact that agriculture is crying out for young ones to take farming up but because of unsociable hours, no holidays in the summer and not always good pay it doesnt suit todays generation!

Can't agree fully, and this was discussed briefly in last weeks FW letters section. Technology is still replacing the worker, albeit at a slower pace than during the industrial revoloution. Think automatic tractors (already exist, only H+S to satisfy before they become common place) and automatic milking machines (better for the cow and the bottom line) Consolidation of small ex family farms etc.

A quick look at FW jobs and jobs wanted and it will become apparent that there is no shortage of farm workers.

Doobin, yes technology is replacing the workers, automated tractors could be here as soon as next year!! Believe trials ongoing this year with view to commercial launch next year depending how it goes this year. Can you tell me which generation is likely to be good with latest technology?? Am sure you will agree its the current generation, I am 33 and am struggling at times with technology in agriculture its progressing at such a rate its too quick!

Sorry for the derail and congratulations on your latest arrival. :)
