My job today is to rescue the chains that hit nails yesterday ! A day in the shed with a file !

council call-out 2.40 on Friday, strong north gusts were last straw for huge old beech.

it broke at base and brought down adjacent huge beech with it across busy national road.

Very very  lucky nobody killed .

we were about 40 minutes away so no time to bring Valtra. We just about got the tricky stuff and one lane open before dark. Road fully cleared and open around 6.30.

Jcb with 4in1 bucket and helpful sensible driver took most of the hardship out it.

Stripping ivy and wisteria out of a eucalyptus in the freezing fog. Everything covered in a layer of ice at the start.

My hands were so cold and numb on the way up the tree I thought about stopping, but once I got going was ok.

Had a bit !!! Of rain so no go Friday but made good progress mon/ today I’ll have to to back over and dress it nicely as it’s 5” of slop/ dredgings from the river to lift bank up a few inches
