I have just finished trimming my black thorn, hawthorn hedge so dont need gloves now but am going to buy some on your rec ready for next year. I spent an hour scraping a scalpal over my forearm you know that tick tick sound you know its in there but cant get it out. Turns out it was at 90 deg and 10mm long ouch.

as for blackthorn if it gets you get it out if its in do not let it go septic if it does get to A&E quick it can bugger up the tendon sheaths in your joints.

I have some pretty annoying issues with the wrist I got a blackthorn stuck in when I was in my late teens. Now 32 and a hard day with an axe or hammer causes me pain for a couple of days after. The thorn was in there for a week (I was hard when I was that age you know:001_rolleyes:) and eventually I lost pretty much all movement in the joint so had to go to the docs. When the nurse pulled it out it was a whole thorn over 1/2" long.... It must have got right into the joint because it came out pretty much 90* to my arm! It's never been quite the same since.

"Ripur" or whatever the brand was ;

Now £18.00 in the clearance section of the site linked to earlier.

PS

Liked the barbed wire tug of war as a proper test for gloves.

Just checked, but unfortunately you're wrong.

The ones on offer are Ripeur 1, which are similar but don't have any cut resistance on the back of the glove.

Ripeur 2 are the ones you want.:thumbup1:

PS I don't really get commission, though I wish I did.

  • 5 months later...

I did have this in another post but got no answers so re listing again in here

watched all the info about the ripeur 2 gloves

ummed & arred then got some mid season (jan/feb) wow no more thorns bar the odd 1 through the seam brilliant I thought,

only thing have worn through the fingers very quickly (I thought) just under 1/2 a season will need another pair for next/this season, they weren't doing masses of just thorn , just a good old mixed hedging, but they were in use for the remaining of the season 3/4 months.

What others getting out of them ??

Think I will get some more

I haven't used mine that much, tbh, so they obviously haven't worn much.

When I've needed them, though, they have been a revelation.

If I lost them tomorrow I would order another pair even if they'd gone up to fifty quid.

Per glove.
