I always find dead birches are nasty for this, top breaks out and hangs around just long enough for you to bimble into the zone and get some. After a couple of close shaves, I always wait a while and have a good look in the crowns of surrounding trees these days!

A contractor I know was doing a bit of felling a couple of years ago and as the tree came over it pulled a branch out of an adjacent tree which came down and struck the one of the guys killing him outright. Don't underestimate how dangerous this job can be.

Three years ago I was reducing a large Beech with only one groundie so there was a complete carpet of brush under the tree.

Next thing I knew the client was yelling at me because I had apparently dropped a branch on his wife's head. She was now in the house, covered in blood, trying to go to sleep!

Why was she there? Nobody knows! :confused1:

It's not just the trees that we're at risk from, the customer can be a mine field of problems. :laugh1:

Some good posts here.

I always think the trees will get you before your saw or kit will.

That said, I once accessed a tree via a ladder, stropped in and sat back. Next thing I was flat on my arse in a bush at the base of the tree, winded but unharmed.

I'd clipped into my Caritool instead of my side-D. Caritools are good, but they aren't built for side-loading by fat little Geordies. Lesson learned.

Think twice, cut once.
