i got my spikes for £60 off ebay they're steel with velcro top pads and leather lowers, and also came with spares gaffs and brand new upper leather strap pads also! Bargain. I don;t see how they justify £2-300 for them either, its rediculous!

The pair you bought were likely nicked from the electricity board. Easy for someone to sell something cheap when they havent had to pay for them themselves!

be carfful with spikes of ebay, there is a guy selling new ones for 99 quid (Blue ones)that one iof my collage boys got and there total crap, made out of monkey metal and the leathr straps are useless and fall apart. the ones he bought snapped clean in half just above the gaff they were so crap.

IMO there not expensive, for a piece of specalized kit that will last many years i think there quite cheap.

Even then they would have to have a buy it now at that price, anyone that has listed and sold a pair on Ebay as an auction will know there is a big interest in them.

i wouldn't be fooled by that pic. The leather pad is on back to front.

Buy quality, they last for quite some time. I have Bashlin Alloy with Velcro tops. Had them about 3 years now and unless they get chored, should last for a lot more years.

when you buy new you get them in a tin, wink wink, when you buy them second hand you get them in a box......:001_rolleyes:

I'm happy to pay 250 to 300 quid (my last pair in NZ were $800) and have them last a life time of abuse rather than some cheap crap that breaks half way up a big Gum barrel. Not something I like the thought of.

I dont think 2-300 is unreasonable for one of the most used bits of kit in the bag that will serve you for 20 years, considering other bits of climbing kit last barely a year and still cost a fortune, ropes spring to mind. not to mention gimicky accesories
