[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y5_bGt-sL4]throwing a big pine top.mov - YouTube[/ame]

Here's the top of a lightning struck white pine getting thrown about 22'. The top was 20" diameter at the cut and somewhere near 35'-40' tall. It was a fun job to pull it off, which I wasn't 100% sure I could do, so I had to explain the situation to the clients, who were most gracious in green lighting the plan..

If you start feeling impatient, the actual throw comes in somewhere after 11:00..

If I hadn't broken up with my girlfriend a week earlier, I'd have been on holiday with her and would have missed this job.. makes it that much sweeter...

Thanks for posting.

In my humble opinion, in the time you spent with the camera you could have been spiking up, lowering the limbs and then blocking down the stem, without causing the property owners the stress of possibly having their hedge destroyed. I am assuming that the other person doing the filming works for you, and could have been lowering for you. I know you're all about getting jobs done quickly with minimum effort, but I think in this case it would have been more efficient to use the controversial "climb to top of tree and section it down" method.

I wasn't there so can't be certain of all the variables that you might have identified, and glad it worked out for you.

:thumbup:Thank you for posting my veiw is that the its good to try different/new methods however, my big hangups are firstly the damage caused to the lawn must have been considerable and an accurate fell from the ground i feel would have resulted in less damage to the lawn and only a narrow section of the hedge would need attention.

Secondly all that kit rope, block, rope to connect block to anchor has been loaded to ??? who knows what load ??? in the rules herein the uk that kit is now scrap

I respect your intentions by posting the film but feel that the method used has no real application there are meany i feel better ways this could have been dealt with.

Please these are my opions and base on what i observe if there is any ill feelings caused my apoligse but if you put yours balls on the block expected the chop.
