helmets but not the visor and ear defenders are vat exempt, as are boots.

Visors/ear defenders are VAT exempt if bought with a helmet.

But if you knackered a visor and went to buy a replacment you would have to pay vat on it

Hi

It's not us retailers, there is no VAT on helmet and boots. But there is on the trousers.

I don't make the rules just follow them.:001_smile:

Hi Justin just to clarify I know climbing helmets assembled with PPE do not incur VAT as they are classed as PPE.

A helmet sold with no PPE or unassembled (visors and ear defenders ) should have VAT added as it could be used for recreational activities not in line with industrial PPE.

Confused ? You should try reading the HMRC guidelines :thumbup1:

Here in the states we are tax exempt when purchasing raw material for a finished product. Everything else is taxable/deductable. At 20% Tax for most items sold I would make sure that every one of my suppliers not only knew what was taxable but clearly stated the non-taxable items as well. After all it is not all of the Governments money, unless your willing to part with it all.
