Cordless drills, opinions?

My Dewalt 18v Lithium has done endless days of work and is still as tight as the day it was new. It's a brilliant drill. Makita and Hitachi are very good as well.

 

Avoid the cheap stuff like Silverline, AM-Tech etc. The batteries are absolute rubbish.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Just read through from the beginning and the Makita seemed to be the one most recommended.

Anyone got any other suggestions and do the guys who recommended the Makita still stand by them 2 years further on.

Have got a Milwaukee 18v but after 10 years of hard graft it is pretty much dead, it's been a great tool but would prefer something with slightly easier to source parts

I am still on the old Dewalt 18v system with no complaints but would happily buy a Makita and maybe the Panasonic if I felt adventurous.

a bit of line i use dewalt drills no proplems , but for outside work i use the sthil petrol drill awsome never had a proplem and plenty of grunt

I've got a Dewalt XRP 18 volt , it's about 4 years old and is still as good as new ! I'm told the new ones are crap though , my joiner mate swears by Makita .

Was in the building trade for a while, DeWalt was king at that time, but sadly they are not what they were. Makita have the edge now, very well made and balance is good for lots of screw-driving. I would ignore the hammer function on cordless and use sds where possible. Used Bosh and they are nice but no end of battery problems.

 

I have used a pair of Erbaur 18 volt nicd combi's for the last 5/6 years on the renovation of my house, every screw has been driven in with these and there has been many thousands! I think they were £70 each with 2 batteries and 1 hr charger. These are not the same as a Makita with LI-ION etc. but are still very good and well made. The combi has a metal chuck which is a very nice touch.

Fein are the absolute dogs dangly bits, or so I understand, I also understand a kinda expensive, I was pricing a "Rotabroach" when I came across the brand.
