Reynolds Boughton ARB truck anybody?

Whilst I am not a tree surgeon, I wonder if one of these would be useful to convert in to an ARB truck? Welcome to MOD Sales Online - Military Vehicles for Sale - Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale - #17647 - Reynolds Boughton RB 44 Truck Cab Pickup R.H.D

The military took them on to replace the Land Rover 101 as a gun tractor (not sure that was a good idea as apparantly Land Rover did offer to rechassis the 101s, replace the V8 with the TDi and change the suspension from leafs to coils - but the MOD said no!) and then the Reynolds were replaced by the Pinzgauer (not sure if that was a good idea either as it takes two Pinzgauers to do the job of one 101 and the drivers have to be specially trained and qualified,so not just any squaddy can jump in and use one!):001_cool:

Good strong bus based on a dodge 50

The 4wd set up is pretty good with a lock on the centre diff and a limited slip diff in the back axle. The Perkins Phaser will chuck you down the road at a good lick, if you are running off road tyres they can be a bit giddy on tarmac.

The front axle is a bit of a let-down, it was made by RB and the hub swivels are welded to the banjo tube meaning you can’t replace them easily. Replacement axles aren’t readily available. Witham’s had some direct from storage minus the front axles, which had been removed for replacements on vehicles in service.

It’s over 3,500kg so you will need to put it on an operator’s licence. I know of a couple that have been registered agricultural to get around that the fuel and the driving licence issues but it’s as dodgy as foook when you get found out.

My boss has an RB44. 4x4, twin rear wheels (civillian version only), hydraulic winch. We've just put a completely rust free truck cab on it, new tool locker and chip box. Its a good machine but not worth what he's spent on it to be honest, particularly as it doesnt get used very much...never mind
