Sitka Spruce

Because of its fast growing nature and adaptability to wet soils. Plus, there is 530,000 hectares of the stuff in Scotland, around 850 million trees, all planted by hand. When seasoned, burns lovely and is used extensively down the West Coast Highlands & Islands.

Oh, and you can make beer from the roots.......:thumbup1:

How long do you need to season the Sitka for? I have a load to cut , luckily some is dead and solid !

Old oak gate posts that have been replaced. Its the only stuff i have fiund that makes my flue glow!

Very old, dry heart of Oak is the closest thing you'll get to coal IMHO. Burns hot and long.

From a selling point of view, Birch, Alder, Nothofagus and Sycamore - fast growing, quick to season and easy to handle.

My favourite would be the ones I saw outside b&Q this afternoon, at £7.99 a bag containing 8 or 9 small split logs, barely enough for an evening.

Why?

Because there must be people out there rich or stupid enough to pay almost a pound per half log. We could be very rich if we could find them:biggrin:
