I’m probably clenching more than grinding. I remember I did keep catching myself with my back right teeth together and thinking it was bad for them.

I did in fact do a long drive for the first time in a while the other day but also a day climbing for the first time in a while. And have had a bout of (bad) ear pain for the first time in a while. I think we’re on the right track.

I’m a very relaxed and unstressy driver btw. I find it more boring and depressing than anything else.

I think it would he helpful if you asked your dentist to to make your bite even all round . This way the load is spread evenly all round with no high spots taking more load . I am a clencher more than a grinder and have indentations inside my lower lip that match my teeth .

As an aside, does anyone know why these muffs have VAT on them? They’re PPE.

If they were sold with a hard hat as being a set then the entire thing should be VAT free. Might be hard getting the supplier to understand this

That's as an individual. As a business you're supposed to pay the vat then claim it back - same for boots etc.

Aye. I called that firm up the thread and the guy looked down the phone at me like I'd asked whether they were halal.

When you say business btw, do you mean VAT registered business or just business?

Business as in not for your own personal use. If you're not vat registered business you're supposed to pay the vat and enjoy it.

Not my experience, I've always listed ppe items like helmets as business use (sole trader) and skipped the vat.

As I understand:

If it's for employees, 20% VAT

If the person buying it is going to wear it, 0% VAT

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/protective-equipment-and-vat-notice-70123

2.1 Protective boots and helmets that qualify for zero-rating

  • they must not be supplied to persons for use by their employees

2.6 Zero-rated industrial helmet accessories

If you fit accessories such as visors or ear protectors as an integral part of a qualifying industrial helmet, you can zero-rate the supply of the complete helmet. But accessories supplied on their own are standard-rated.

That about sums it up. It doesn't matter whether you are vat registered or not it only matters on who the PPE is for. It's only for boots and helmets/complete helmets, other PPE has vat on it.
