Moon landing.

We're on the same page. Why hasn't anyone gone back ever? Did they find something nasty there, or is it just as mundane as there's no point going back because there's absolutely nothing there? It's a weird one for sure.

I’ve no doubt we put stuff there, and I’ve always believed Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969.

BUT  (and I’m not a conspiracy theorist), if we could do it with the tech available over half a century ago, why don’t we go more often?

It can’t just be money.

Musk could go there for stag weekends.

It might be that they determined it was utterly and completely turbo-grim, like the best bits of Cleethorpes x Frinton x Clacton, and vowed never to return.

I believe the big thing was being first after that there was little point as most things can be done with unmanned tech!

My take on US conspiracy things is "what did the Russians say".... effectively gave up on that part of the space race and said "Well done"... so either they believed the US or they had a lot of telescopes pointed at the moon to have a look see what was happening. Moon was over Australia when they landed, so am sure they would have mentioned it too if they weren't getting the radio messages back. So far all the conspiracies have never answered why the Russians accepted that there was a moon landing.

Why they never went back?

(google failed me for a couple of lines here...)

Florida's horrider than Whitley Bay
No McEwan's Export in the USA
The bars are packed tighter than tins of sardines
(image: our heroes boarding a space shuttle)
No room for barmaids with all these machines
This is Geordies calling Houston, can you send us up some drinks?
(image: our heroes have landed on the Moon)
There's no McEwan's Export and the local beer stinks
(something), (something) no atmosphere
The States? Nice place, shame about the beer

I’ve always thought the Russian silence implied it did happen.

But what do we know?

Even about 20 years ago there was more computing power under the bonnet of a BMW 7-series than the Apollo missions had.

So why haven’t/can’t we go back more regularly and/or easily?

I saw an interview, I think with one of those who went, can't remember his name. Anyway, the effort that went into that project (a vanity project really) can't be repeated by government today. Mainly because of the Enormous mass of fossil fuel you need to carry to burn your way out of earth's gravity. He said " it's amazing what you can do with 400,000 staff and an unlimited (!!!) budget"

Imagine if that focus had gone into clean power like fusion we could've colonised the solar system and be halfway to alpha centuri by now. Oh, and we wouldn't have f**ked up Earth with the last 50 years of fossil burning.
