Anyone still like Labour?

I ask in all seriousness; and personally I always like reading views that conflict with my own.  But after the promise not to raise taxes and then Wednesday's £40 billion tax raising budget, is there anyone who actually supports them still?

I hope this doesn't simply become a silly name calling thread.  Maybe someone will raise some good points.

Taking increasing amounts of money off people that work so you can give it to people that don't is never going to work is it? It certainly doesn't encourage anyone to work.

Raising taxes so you can give it to local government and NHS is pointless, you may as well set fire to the money.

Having a Government front bench filled with people that have never had a real job is mental.

We are very short of a Government that has the country at heart rather than either own deluded ideology or their own pockets as their priority. The Tories were terrible and Labour worse.

The £40 million is just the start!

I find it odd that they roundly lambasted the tories or HS2 and rejoiced while it was reduced then tells that they will build a new line between Oxford and Cambridge, tunnel under London, tunnel through the pennines and so on!

More misery to come from the ideology of the inept I reckon!

Never trusted them since Blair and the WMD farce. Lost good mates due to Blair/Campbell etc and  Labour lies. Starmer is carrying on where the last Labour government left off. You ain’t never gonna borrow and tax your way to success.

I don't really follow it all, but I think the idea with that line is to take passengers and freight without having to go via london

The East West Rail scheme will re-establish a rail link between Cambridge and Oxford, making travel across Britain easier.

Understandably a lot of people wanted a change from the Tories.

Add-in the rise of Reform UK in England and decline of the SNP in Scotland and we've now got a landslide Labour government - that was voted-in without anyone knowing their policies.

I don't think this lot are like Blair's New Labour - I think they are more like Kinnock's bunch.  More left-wing leaning, more ideologically driven.

That might be okay [if that's your politics] - but unlike Blair/Brown - they are far more incompetent.

The run-up to the budget and the budget itself seem to show this up.  Removing the winter fuel payment from those that fall just outside of the benefit cut-off, settling strikes without any kind of reform of working practices, lobbing billions at sprawling public services, stifling longer-term economic growth.

Not just my view - but the opinion of the IFS and the OBR.

It's the unintended consequences of what they are doing that is really stupid.

We deserve better - whether Labour, Conservative or any of the other parties.

And it's not just here - trying to name a politician or party anywhere in the world that "is doing a good job" is almost impossible.  Just look at the US for a prime example.

The right people aren't going into politics.  Those with a measure of commonsense, with real business experience, with a social conscience, who really give a damn about things - rather than themselves or their mates.

 I'll get my coat.....

So far labour have succeeded in annoyed a fair proportion of the 'grafters' of the country, e.g. employees (NIC=tax), business owners (CGT), bankers (carried interest and VAT on school fees) and farmers (IHT).  Let's see.
