Jokes???

The most incendiary topics can be used in comedy. But only by the most skillful of comedians. The trick is to be offensive with the subject matter but extract something universally funny from it. Ricky Gervais is great example of someone who can turn the concentration camps into a joke and not offend Jews. He has covered all the taboos with intelligence and style. Bernard Manning, Roy chubby brown and Jim Davidson by contrast are offensive swine.

Yes cancer can be funny, but it has to be very clever and with compassion. As if told by a cancer sufferer themselves, like a radiotherapy joke involving wigs and pubic hair.

There's Cancer in my family at the moment, I've had a brush myself. Consequently I am sensitive to the subject, but I also realise that if we can't laugh at our misfortunes we are condemned to be controlled by them.

For the record, I'm no fan of racist, homophobic or misogynistic jokes. Unless told by the deft. The deft are rare.

Irony is very subtle.

"Erectus Trouserious" or the Trouser Snake is the worlds most dangerous snake. Colour varies from pink to black, it is fangless and averages around eight inches depending on the honesty of its owner. It appears in bedrooms attacking women in the mouth or lower abdominal area and its highly venomous spit can cause swelling lasting up to nine months. Some mutant species are also known to attack men from behind!

A woman sitting in an Adelaide Pub suddenly began to cough.

After a few seconds it became apparent that she was in real distress, and two locals, Bluey and Bazza sitting at the next table turned to look at her.

Ken ya swaller? asked Bluey

The woman signalled 'No!', desperately shaking her head.

Kin ya breathe?' asked Bazza. The woman shook her head No!!!

With that, Bluey walked behind her, lifted up the back of her dress, yanked down her knickers and ran his tongue up and down the crack of

her bum.

This shocked the woman into such a violent spasm that the obstruction flew out of her mouth and she began to breathe again.

Bluey swaggered back to his table and took a deep swig of his beer.

Bazza said in admiration 'Ya know Bluey, I'd heard of that bloody Hind Lick Manoeuvre, but that's the first time I ever seen somebody do it....'

JJG, i know where you're coming from on what you said. I suffer with epilepsy (not good for arb i know:scared1:) but there are a few epilepsy jokes out there that people think are in poor taste and act very sheepish if they tell them and i'm in earshot but i probably laugh the loudest at them.

I think it comes down to knowing your audience in the end. I've got a mate that is epileptic and, like Penfold, would probably find most jokes about it funny. On the flip side, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here, I have managed to silence many a room completely with the wrong choice. It's a fine line IMO.

Oh yes!! I've done that on several occasions:blushing:

I had a very strict religious up bringing, I did not swear of tell dirty joke until I was 30, I think I lack the required judgment as to how appropriate the situation is on occasions:blushing:

What do you do if an epileptic has a fit in the bath? Throw your washing in.

That the kind of thing you mean?

I told that joke in a pub to a group of friends. One of them said, "I had a brother who was Epileptic and died in the bath"

I felt like I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. The whole group went quiet as I went Bright Red and stammered my apologises.

Then he said "He choked on a sock" The whole group fell about and I looked very, very silly.

After that, I was always very careful of who I told jokes to....
