Diagnosis doesn't equal an increase, think of the the celebrity types saying they have these learning difficulties in their 40s.

 

I was always told when I did a bit of work in SEN, everyone is on the spectrum to some degree.

 

The real question is, is there an increase in the ones that can't lead a normal life, with the exception of marrying your cousin problems.

There have always been people on the spectrum, there have always been bendy genders (of most observed species), there have always been albinos, there have always been lefties; all in roughly the same proportion of the population since humans became humans.
