My favourites are probably (in no order)

Mac, it splits easy, dries quick and burns consistently hot.
hazel, quick processing and good heat with little ash.

Hawhorn & blackthorn, hot - I managed to melt the he riddle bars in a multifuel burner with blackthorn once!

Are you saying you would rather not have oak? If so, what’s the reason?

Oak takes forever to season and burns more like coal I find.

Sycamore is usually nice to work with, seasons pretty quickly and burns well.

Beech and ash are great.

Love burning thorn and fruit, but they can be a bugger to process.

I tend to favour mixed loads rather than burning something specific, including hard and soft.

Never tried that. Is there much about where you are?

Can’t say I’ve ever seen much in my

neck of the woods.

Not much but just found it super easy to split and ends up a good weight, bit like ash.

Elm and ash probably the most common trees round here, both good stuff.

Hawthorn and blackthorn for me. It burns very hot as said. I've broken a couple of grids burning the stuff.

I do like thorn for their heat, but they’re not pleasant to cut and process, especially if they’re growing densely together. They do split quite easily though. Lastly, they’re also pretty small, blackthorn particularly, so you don’t get that much out of them and their branches are usually too small and gnarly to bother with.

I’m a big fan of nicely coppiced hazel, lovely wood to burn.
By Mac do you mean macrocarpa? I didn’t know that was good firewood.
