Do you use your petrol tools in the rain?

Hello,

With the current spells of rain around here in the East of the UK, I wondered if anyone uses their Stihl or other brand petrol hedge cutter in the rain, as I thought I could do hedges trimming jobs on the rainy days I am not mowing.

Additionally; does anyone mow in light to moderate rain?

Regards

(Have a Stihl KM 56 RC the manual doesn't mention rain and Mountfield mower with a Honda engine)

.....just dont blame the mower for not filling the grassbag right up and clogging and throwing uncollected grass out the side of the deck when you cut in anything other than dry grass and weather.

If cut grass sticks to your boots when you walk on the lawn then it will stick to the surfaces of the mower when cutting. The votrex effect of a blade to lift the grass prior to cutting it also compromised due to grass being wet and heavy. Had many people complain about their machines not being efficient collectors, then when you actually get to the root of the problem they've either used it whilst raining or after several days of rain and the grass is still wet through.in effect all the mower has become is a petrol driven kenwood juicer.

The only machines that collect reasonably in the wet are the fan assisted ones, be that the Kaaz pedestrian design or a fan vaccum collector behind a compact tractor. Even then it's not great, but sometimes needs must!

I have a towed grass collector that goes behind the Husqvarna rider sometimes. I was asked to pick up the grass from a large, recently cut lawn no more than a mile from me, simple job. Oh no. Couldn't pick it up at all, ended up engaging the mower deck to try to loosen the stuff, with some degree of success, nightmare job. We eventually found out by talking to neighbours that the night before, a band of rain had passed over. At my house, you wouldn't even have put a coat on, it was that light. Halfway between the two, it was seriously heavy. At the job site it had been monsoon like, absolutely plastering the cut grass to the floor!
