Advice on SRT, where to start

Buy or make a rope wrench and stiff tether and add them above your current hitch. Buy a foot ascender if you don’t already have one. That’s it.

Lash up some bits of bungee or string to your chest/neck if you want to keep the stuff tending better.

I have bought the Schultz effect, it's a really interesting watch. Not actually done the srt bit but I would say it improved my climbing anyway, good to think about things from a different angle. I would recommend it.

There's a LANTRA course that I have seen but also not done down south, arborventure training. One of these days...

I did a day with John at Arborventure training. If your any where near the new forest they are well worth talking to.

I would also add a big shot and a few throw lines to your list, high anchors make srt

If you know any climbers near you or any decent company’s, maybe ask them if they’d be happy to spend a day or a few hours on a weekend pointing out the basics. It’s all well and good learning from YouTube but it’s a good idea to get a good handle on the basic principles before jumping too far in. Also will give you a chance to try their kit before buying your own👍

LANTRA do an Award in SRT that will be pretty comprehensive for the basics. Myerscough run it as a 2 day course with assessment on day 3 for £450, which is a bit pricey but will be belt and braces for being properly certificated, and a good place to start if you're completely new to SRT. Again, another chance to try lots of kit and work out what you do and don't need to get started. I've not heard any feedback of the course at Myerscough though. You might find someone else running a 1 day Intro course.

Otherwise I'd recommend familiarising yourself with the basics, get a Ropewrench and a knee ascender set up, and then using SRT for access with a base tie. You'll see the benefits immediately, and can then work the tree from an MRS system.

In terms of stuff on youtube I found the Treekit SRT Intro series really useful and well produced (for an arb youtube video)
