The self build thread

Pretty much what it says above. Thought it would be good to have a few projects together under one thread.

I'd like to see more of people's own projects, whether it be a full on renovation, build from scratch or a weekend project. Basically anything from a dog kennel or man cave to complete house.

Any stage of construction or condition, updates, etc etc.

I'll kick it off with a few pics of our 3/4 finished greenhouse. My latest project and possibly the last one before I begin work on an actual house.(eek)

It doesn't have to be a timber structure, anything requiring a bit of craftsmanship is welcome. Also, if you just happened to be passing through wherever and saw something worthy, please do post it.

Looking forward to seeing what's out there

Cracking job Conor👌

Got to love a project as a bit of relaxation...one that just happens when you feel like it!

Currently working on an outdoor area at our place.  Just need to complete the patio around it over the next few weeks.  Kinda design and build as you go tbh so no doubt will be adding to it but progress so far...20210529_204050.thumb.jpg.3782d19752c79dc10580826dcb714e05.jpg20210717_202340.thumb.jpg.66e04454f1b12084530f10139e7c7466.jpg20210902_214517.thumb.jpg.2dbcc5bda3d8f9d1594128f4253e0aed.jpg20210923_142229.thumb.jpg.2ac9ea894f104428a7f5328cd1f56e58.jpg20211030_154448.thumb.jpg.1dadbc5d7412e569b3a1d79c3cd2db09.jpg20211128_133029.thumb.jpg.f2b90e09f42f6baee87633a4174cf7a8.jpg20211128_161016.thumb.jpg.b65ebd15d404f7d14eaf4bf3a864db60.jpg20211128_160939.thumb.jpg.98f5d3959c22deffa22b3b653c809e6b.jpg20220116_160938.thumb.jpg.b778ee7d87290e84d07718f116f5ac94.jpg20220108_163942.thumb.jpg.65955d4b5edbaf5cd466d6433b8dbe53.jpg20220415_134838.thumb.jpg.673e63558e99dd8cdd8f07493a33adaa.jpg20220326_175915.thumb.jpg.6bcf869f7477421845af0dd929c9e8e5.jpg20220108_163959.thumb.jpg.970db36f68aade1d71a971eaeec96a2d.jpg20220702_183258.thumb.jpg.a91a86bf96eb6906d956db7a94381997.jpg

So just as lockdown hit in 2020 me and my dad decided to knock down 95% of his house and 'extend' it.

Had been in planning for a while it wasn't a spur of the moment lockdown project , they just happened to coincide

Most credit goes to dad, with my limited input , we had a Brickie do the block work, dad laboured for him through lockdown, crushed all the rubble Into type 1 for the sub base, then did the concrete slab

Then a chippy did the floor joists & caberdek, we put up the steelwork ourselves, and hired the truck/hiab in and installed the glulams, then a chippy did the techy rafters, some of the compound mitre cuts must have about 5 angles on it which does my brain in🤣, but me and dad did the easy straight rafters, ply lining , membrane and counter battons,

We had a roofer do the main battons and tiling, soffits facias leadwork etc

Oh and a window company did the windows

We installed the stud walls, floor insulation and underfloor heating pipes and a screed company screeded it in a day

Now have sparks and plumbers in and kitchen fitters, but we've done all the insulation, plasterboard and painting ourselves so far

Cladding is a cement board wood lookalike I'm afraid to say, but looks pretty darn good IMO

Still a long way to go, but for what seems to be a weekend hobby project it's getting there 🙄(sorry credit also iv had a lot of mates helping on Saturdays etc)

That is a MASSIVE house - wowsers!!

Were building control happy with recycled type 1? I though it had to be virgin stone under a house (ridiculously!)?
