So it seems that Rob does not understand your comments either since he states you where/are being insulting. He thinks I should not retaliate to your insulting comments with what he believes is more insulting comments.

Yep I think you are both being insulting but I see Andy as more an 'arbtalk local' who should be little more understanding 😅

Emotions are so hot right now - probably none of us is the enemy but playing out to our own anxiety and fears - and who could blame anyone for that?

Why Russia Gets More Bang for the Ruble

Quote

Based on the annual average dollar-to-ruble exchange rates, Russia is typically depicted as spending in the region of $60 billion per year on its military. This is roughly in line with the defense spending of medium-sized powers like the United Kingdom and France. However, anybody familiar with Russia’s military modernization program over the past decade will see the illogic: how can a military budget the size of the United Kingdom’s be used to maintain over a million personnel while simultaneously procuring vast quantities of capable military equipment?

Certainly boosted stock value for the big weapon tech firms....

Yep and I don't quite get this 'cash grab' of Russians who may have nothing to do or even strongly disagree with what is happening. How do they judge whose assets to seize? Do you need to be over a few £million and where will those assets go further down the line?

Does it start with the uber rich and then start filtering down? Do you get a receipt?

'Russian nationals will also soon have a limit to how much they can hold in British bank accounts, however the limit is yet to be set.'

How does the average Russian person have any hand in what a leader does?

Not sure all this freezing of bank accounts is that healthy [like in Canada for the truckers protest]. Or at least there should be some evidence on someone and some sort of process and transparency before doing it.

Most of us get all our information and discussion (about everything) from the western bubble. Fact.

There may be contradictory voices within our bubble, but it's still an "Atlantocentric" understanding.

I'm trying to get outside the bubble and listen to opinions and analysis from around the world. There are billions of thinking and feeling people in this earth who have a different understanding of reality than us. Maybe they have something to teach me?

Been dipping into the Saker, it's a blog/commentary/news aggregator. Refreshing break from western thought....

Careful now, your hate for the West and what it stands for is showing.

On the one hand I somewhat agree. Germany failed in two world wars to dominate Europe and is by and large accomplished this goal through what is known as the EU. It was only a matter of time before Germany needed some pretext to tool up again. Now the world is clapping their hands at Germany for openly stating they'll dominate Europe with their weapon spending. How short our collective memories are.

Yet in light of this you want Ukraine to join NATO and the EU. If the Ukraine joins the EU it will be volunteering to be the pet puppy of Germany. The Ukraine will always be a net beneficiary to the EU, meaning they will forever be indebted to Germany and France. Is this what you want?

You cant have it both ways. You cant have the Ukraine as an independent country but also one that runs to the West (which you seem to hate) every time Russia gets annoyed at them.

The best thing Germany could do is to take the hit and refuse anything coming from that new gas line. That’d be a decent sanction.
