  1. 1. Whats the best option for bashing in wedges when felling (for Arb & Forestry). I know people use Axes with a hammer top edge and also lump or sledge hammers? Any recommendation or steer clear of options?

    • Wooden Handled Axe with Hammer Top Edge

When using plastic wedges, I like other’s use an axe or deadlow hammer, depending on what is to hand. Usually take an axe if in the woods, as it can save some time getting a stuck saw free.

If I am using high lift wedges I get something heavy, like a splitting maul or sledge hammer.

Which Wedge is the Right One?

Not got one but looks a quality product.

I’ve had one of these for years after developing tendinitis around my elbows from continuous wedge pounding. Got it in Germany, it was expensive but worth every penny, not suffered with the problem since.

It is lighter than a traditional sledge hammer, but you can compensate this with the increased velocity of the swing.

It depends on what you are doing, if just tapping in a plastic wedge to prevent saw getting jammed then axe okay but if you need to give a wedge a good ponding, in particularly a mental wedge but not just metal wedges, you can damage an axe head for including deform the eye, best to use splitting maul or sledge hammer for that.
