I bet the chipper manufacturers who have spent a fortune getting sub 750kg chippers are going to be pissed and I imagine the sub 750 market will probably take a dive. It's going to make my life much simpler..

Sub 750 still exists across the water! Plus, you could add to the mix, physical size for storage, weight off your carrying allowance or MAM, budget, or need.  But yes, for years we have fair struggled to keep things below 750 while giving a quality product which will last a few years without the chassis breaking and have a viable chipper that can do a couple of days without needing to be re filled etc!

Double 3.5 tonners to 7.5 with no tests, O licence or tacho.

You forgot the most important factor in your careful and conscientious driving J.....

 

The cost of the tow vehicle, the towed load and the trailer all came out of YOUR pocket and the financial cost of any loss / damage was also coming out of your pocket. 
 

Owner operator is a huge factor in care and diligence - although there are still rare occasions where incidents happen.

Re: 1997 and there not being serious issues with heavy towing then. There are almost 10 million more vehicles on the road now than in 1997. We are much more congested.

I bet the fella I paid to get me through my test will be pissed. He was a grand fella, no nonsense and a big part of his living came from trailer tests. Now he can do something else I suppose, HGV driving perhaps?!
